Nurseries in Bearsden

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide which nursery in Bearsden to send my 20 month old son to. We’re lucky as we’re very flexible with days and he could have a place for 2 days a week at Canniesburn Nursery or Buchanan Nursery. I’m finding it really hard to find reviews about either and visits aren’t possible due to Covid. It feels like a big decision to make based just on a website so it would be great to hear from anyone who sends their little ones to either nursery or who know other parents who do (positives and negatives please). I’d heard from my husband’s colleagues that Canniesburn has experienced quite a high staff turnover recently but I’m guessing that’s quite common in early years care?
All advice and thoughts welcome, thanks very much in advance Smile

Hi there, my DD was at BN and I have friends that have used CN. I think both are fine. We had a good experience at BN, the staff are caring and the room sizes are small. I also think that the 3-5 area seems really good with lots of interactive activities. Cons would be the menu (food very monotonous and didn't seem healthy) and the costs are extortionate until you get the gov funding.
I've also heard about the constant staff changes at CN, and have to say we didn't experience that at BN.
What I would recommend is applying now for a 2-3 year old space at local authority nurseries, some of them have places and we luckily got a space. The council nursery staff have been there for years (sometimes decades) and I feel there is more consistency in approach. The links to the corresponding primary school are also helpful.
Hope that's useful! Oh meant to add - we and friends both got visits during covid at both nurseries after hours. Perhaps you could suggest that? I do think some places are now just stating covid when things that happened regularly before are just an inconvenience to them...

@eternallyexhausted, brilliant, thanks so much! I’m leaning towards BN (mainly as it’s nearer to the house we’re buying) so it’s great to hear you had a good experience there for your DD. Also very useful advice re applying for a space now at council nursery, thanks. I agree the cost of private nurseries is eye watering!!
