Scottish Higher: Standard entry requirement: BBC (incl English) Nat 5: C (Maths/Lifeskills Maths)

What is BBC? What’s Nat 5: C in old money? A standard grade 1/2?

BBC is at least 2 B’s and 1 C, 1 of which must be English in their Highers. . No idea for Nat 5’s though, thought I got it, but you’re probably right.

Pootle40 · 21/03/2022 14:24

I would have said Nat 5 at C is an old Standard Grade (General 3).

BinBandit · 21/03/2022 14:54

Officially I think a Nat 5 is equivalent to a Credit Level standard grade and Nat 4 is supposed to be equivalent to a general level standard grade.

Effectively the want a minimum of 3 Highers at grades B, B and C, one of which must be English and they want Maths at at least National 5 grade C upwards.

A Nat 5 is the equivalent of standard grade credit so a Nat 5 C would be the equivalent of a 2 at Standard Grade.

The BBC means that at Higher you need at least 3 Higher passes, and minimum grades of BBC. One of those passed (doesn't matter if it's a B or a C) must be in English.

If you have more than that - for example ABBB, that's fine.

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 25/03/2022 08:26

And if we're talking about "old money" qualifications you mean O Grades, standard grades are all new-fangled to me.

newuseronmonday · 25/03/2022 19:22

What BinBandit said.

Must have at least three highers with grades B, B, and C, and one of those must be English.

Must have Maths or Lifeskills Maths in National with at least a C.

I have no idea how they convert to 'old money' but it's probably a good idea to understand how your DC's education will work.

shouldistop · 28/03/2022 11:13

@newuseronmonday it’s nothing to do with my children smart arse Hmm they’re only 1&5. My friend was looking at the nursing degree and was trying to convert what qualifications she already had.

😂😂😂

BinBandit · 28/03/2022 15:17

If your friend could be classified as a "mature" student (honestly don't think they need to be overly mature tbh) then the qualification requirements might be eased a bit. If she doesn't exactly meet the requirements, I'd give them a call or see if they have any specific equivalencies for people who took exams prior to the current regime.

shouldistop · 28/03/2022 17:45

Thanks @BinBandit I think she was going to call them yesterday.

I don’t know why you’re laughing @newuseronmonday you know fine well you were being snarky. I don’t understand why some people on Mumsnet try to get a dig in at complete strangers online.

newuseronmonday · 28/03/2022 22:07

I'm laughing OP because you're acting like the teenagers I come on Mumsnet to get away from.

I hope your friend meets the qualifications for her nursing degree. And I also hope she's a bit thicker skinned than you are.

shouldistop · 29/03/2022 09:38

Ok, I’m acting like a teenager because I didn’t accept your superior sniping Smile
Maybe you want to get away from your teenagers because they’re as pleasant as you are. See, I can snipe in a passive aggressive way too.

A number of my friends who have gone for nursing as a mature student have done the access to nursing course at college then moved on to the nursing course. They all got financial help for the access to nursing course
