From Balerno, how best to commute into Edinburgh centre?

I'm not familiar with Balerno but have begun researching the area to move to.
Can any commuters tell me whether it's common to take the train in to Edinburgh Waverley from Curriehill station, or do you typically commute using another method? I've done a bit of googling and even though the station is just a few minutes away from Balerno, I can't find many mentions of going by train (bus, driving, cycling mentioned frequently) so I feel that I'm missing something! There seems to be a fairly good timetable of trains going through Curriehill, but a quick squizz at google satellite images suggest the station car park only has about 20 spaces, which to me suggests that not many people are parking there all day.
I'm Scottish but have until recently lived overseas in a very large city so am completely out of touch and used to certain public transport service levels, and am keen to not make assumptions about life in Edinburgh and surrounds. I'm also currently not living locally so can't easily visit at this early stage of investigations. Therefore would appreciate any intel on commuting and life in Balerno in general, or alternatives....
Many thanks.

The no. 44 bus goes into central Edinburgh from Balerno, and it’s Lothian buses so you pay a flat fare. Not sure how long it takes though - been years since I got it.

Cycling pretty ok from there - there’s a cycle path down the Water of Leith that gets you most of the way into Edinburgh, and then either quiet routes or the canal path the rest of the way.

You could drive to the park & ride at Ingliston then get the tram.
I dread to think how long the 44 bus would take at rush hour!

The 44 bus takes about 45/50 minutes - rush hour doesn't actually affect it too much as there are rush hour bus lanes at the busiest bits. if you look up the Lothian buses web site it'll give you an idea of times, and also include trams from park and rides (though drive and tram would be much longer in total than just jumping on a bus). Trains are not very frequent, maybe one or two an hour if you're lucky. The station car park used to fill up really early but might be ok now that more people work at home.
Balerno is a nice place to live, but no getting away from the fact it's far out! That's part of the appeal I guess.

Take the 44. Haven't done it in years but you could read a book on the way in.

Hardly anyone uses Curriehill; trains are half hourly and it does only take 15 mins to Waverley, but the 44 is reliable and frequent.

If you were in the Cherrytrees/Newmills side of Balerno as opposed to the main part, it is a 10 minute walk to the station, however.

Seconding the 44 or the water of Leith which then joins the Union canal at slateford and gets you to Lothian road.

Thanks, all
