Parking near Commie Pool in Edinburgh

I can't quite believe I am asking this given that I grew up just on the other side of the park - but in my defence I haven't lived in Edinburgh for 25 years and the road/parking situation has changed beyond all recognition.

I have a day booked at the archives at Historic Environment Scotland which is at Bernard Terrace off Dalkeith Road. Will probably need to be there 10am to 4pm ish. Usually would drive to the airport and tram it in, but it's a bit of a hike up the Bridges from Princes St. Where can I park in the area? Assuming on-street parking is a no-no or ££££?

Straiton Park & Ride then the bus goes into the city centre along the A701 so much closer than the tram takes you?
I wouldn't attempt to park on the street in that area, it's usually pretty bus and it's not cheap (there might also be restrictions to how long you can park for) www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parking-spaces/find-parking-bays/1

The Bridges is currently closed to traffic and the trams are stopping at the west end. That whole east side of prince's street/into leith is a bit of a nightmare at the moment.

I think I'd do the park and ride from Straiton? I think the bus goes up Dalkeith Road from there.

Brilliant. The buses are another mystery to me - I assume they do not take the wee 10p plastic tokens which we used to get to go swimming any more.... contactless?

Yes, they take contactless now. We've finally joined the 21st century. Depending on where you're coming from you could do park and ride at either shawfair (just after the sherrifhall roundabout) or straiton.

Awesome. Wish Glasgow had the tap thing, it is so easy and works really well in London and apparently in Edinburgh too.

£1.80 single fare on the buses and just tap your contactless card. If you use 3 or more buses in a day and pay on the same card it caps the charges at the cost of a day ticket (£4.50)
