I wonder if these courses might be of interest to any Mumsnetters or their friends and family. They are online so accessible anywhere and fully funded for those who are eligible.

The University of Strathclyde is launching several new Upskilling/Microcredential courses in February 2022, fully funded by the Scottish Funding Council.

The courses have been designed specifically to support adults living in Scotland in mid / late career who may be looking to re-enter the workforce, are facing redundancy or are considering a career change.

Each course focuses on developing transferable skills for work including
identifying and adapting skills, confidence building and effective listening skills.

Classes are taught live and online via Zoom at designated times.

Each course is worth 10 credits at SCQF Level 7 and they are Fully funded by The Scottish Funding Council.

Ds(17) did the Engineering Fundamentals course last summer at the end of S5, it would be suitable for anyone after S4 who did maths and physics nat5. Would recommend it for anyones dc who are interested in learning more about the basics of Engineering, it is a much easier introduction than some books. They run it at least twice a year.

It is 10 credits so around 100 hours of learning effort. All online, and when ds did his he had May-Sept to complete so he did a big chunk of it over the holidays.

A lot of it is watching videos, take a few notes, answer multiple choice questions at the end of each module and answer open questions in a chat room.

He wrote a little about what he enjoyed about course in his personal statement for uni and how some points raised led him to further reading etc.

Sorry I have no idea, I’d contact them and ask. It looks at if you can apply for the course but you won’t get funded . Perhaps you can apply for funding where you live now ?

Thank you @I0NA . I will try that . It would be nice if we could move back soon but it's not gonna happen until at least the summer but this sounds like something my almost 16 year old DD would be interested in . Thanks again.
