How busy is it at the moment?

We're due to arrive on Sunday - Wednesday and feeling a little anxious due to covid

We've got a premier inn booked and tickets to the zoo & kings theatre panto

We were at the Christmas market last weekend and it was mobbed, you couldn't get moving for people. The zoo should be ok, plenty of outdoor space there for people to spread out but you might want to avoid the feeding time talks and penguin parade.

We were at the Panto at the start of the month. It’s lovely and a fantastic tribute to Andy Gray towards the end. It was a sell out and they do ask if you aren’t wearing a mask. DH is exempt and was asked twice.

Town was busy and there were queues to get into the markets. If you can do the markets as soon as they open, job done.

Rae36 · 16/12/2021 08:55

The markets were quiet yesterday morning. So if you go on a weekday it won't be so bad

Groovee · 16/12/2021 10:45

Schools break up on Friday, so it could well be very busy. My dd is 21 and went at 9pm on Sunday night and it was still busy.

santasmuma · 16/12/2021 10:47

It's the week of Christmas so it's going to be absolutely heaving. People are going out.

santasmuma · 16/12/2021 10:49

Also we are returning to social distancing and limiting numbers in shops so o would expect to see lengthy queue to get anywhere tbh

ecceromani · 16/12/2021 10:50

Pretty busy but my teenagers went to winter wonderland at weekend and managed to get on rides ok.
But Christmas market was heaving

superstar84 · 16/12/2021 11:44

We might avoid the markets then

Would it be crazy to think we'd be able to get a table at the Wetherspoons near the theatre at 4.30pm on Tuesday? Looking on Google maps it's the Caley Picture House pub

Trying to find a cheap places for a kid friendly meal and some wine for us before the Panto and that seemed to fit

Worth a trip to Sanataland (West Princess Gardens) if the kids are little but go for it opening. We were there in Sunday about 10.30am and it was fine. Went along to the market at East Princess Gardens around noon and it was heaving.

Yes avoid the markets - they are absolutely shit! Seriously though, book everything you can in advance. Not sure if Wetherspoons do this but plenty other decent restaurants on that road.
superstar84 · 17/12/2021 09:54

The kids are 6 & 9

Weee looking forward to it but nervous at the same time

I was at the theatre last night ( not Kings ) and they checked covid passports at the doors. Twice.

So might be worth checking if you need them at the Kings.

superstar84 · 17/12/2021 10:16

We've got the covid passes on our phones, wasn't sure which ones we needed as were in England so I've got the domestic ones and ones for travel

rookiemere · 18/12/2021 17:17

Avoid the Christmas market unless you're there for opening time. The queue to get in was absolutely ridiculous reckon we'd have been waiting at least an hour, if not two.
If you could get there for opening time though it might be better as they've severely restricted the number of people allowed in the actual market.

dementedma · 18/12/2021 17:28

We were at Festival theatre yesterday. No checking of Covid passports or evidence of LFTs. Town wasnt too busy but market looked full as we went past

newatbabystuff · 18/12/2021 18:17

Maybe spoilt local here but the markets aren’t my favourite thing here anyway - so I’d go early but if you miss them don’t worry. The zoo will be fine lots of space, lots of places for dinner near Kings Theatre - there’s some family friendly places in Bruntsfield just up the road like McLarens and Cafe Grande that would appreciate your business more than Wetherspoons (and be nicer). A walk around the old town is beautiful this time of year. St James Quarter has bowling and plenty places to eat if you need an indoor activity.
