We are heading to Dundee on Saturday for an event on Sunday but have a few hours to kill on Saturday night. Staying in Camperdown but wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere we could kill a couple of hours on Saturday evening with DS (10) that isn't too far away, as we will already have had a 4 hour drive. Maybe even a nice dessert shop/ice cream place etc?

Would prefer somewhere that won't be too busy as he is autistic and will be full of nervous apprehension about the Sunday so thinking more of a casual distraction if that makes sense!

Thank you for any help.

Camperdown area has a cinema and Nando’s / McDonald’s etc. I assume your staying in the travel lodge?

There are a few ice creams shops in the centre (5-10 min drive if you have a car) - Ianettas, Croellas etc)

There is also a big wheel down in slessor gardens (centre) that you could go on, it’s across from V and A

MovinOnUp · 30/10/2021 00:30

There's the ice rink within that complex, But that may be too noisy.
I would probably drive into town and have a wander along Riverside.

happymonkey36 · 30/10/2021 18:12

The big wheel moved on a couple of days ago 🙁

There's the science Centre mine are littlies and we're planning a trip, it's apparently recently had a big revamp or a mooch round the V&A Museum?

Knickynackynoo · 01/11/2021 12:06

Oh sorry just saw ypu said evening The ice cream places is Janettas and they are open late

TheScottishPlay · 02/11/2021 13:52

There's a waffle place at The Westport. Then a walk along Riverside ?

University Dundee have a good Botanic Garden to wander around

Slessor Gardens (in the city centre next to the river) has the V&A next to it, a really nice ice cream place, and a water feature at the urban beach. Oh, and the Discovery is next to it. Nice for a wee wander.

Janettas ice cream is amazing, quiet evening activities are a bit harder to come by tbh, the weather is shit and its dark. The waterfront is a nice walk, but a bit barren, the cinema might be a good shout, but not exactly that exciting I'm afraid! Bear in mind, there might be a lot of fireworks going off around, but it might be nice to drive up the Law to watch them, but it shouldn't be too loud
I wouldn't have thought as there's no central show on this year, so they should be fairly well spread out

Broughty ferry is worth a trip, beach. fab play park and lovely Ice cream shop

Loads of cafes and boutiques
Not that busy for young kids, just about right

I don’t like Dundee itself very much and always find it austere but broughty ferry is a wee gem

I’d the weather awful - science museum is good

V&A completely overrated IMO

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 02/11/2021 15:05

I don't think there will be that many fireworks, Bonfire Night is the Friday.

Try Showcase VR in the east end of Dundee, it’s a VR workshop where you can play on a Vr headset, treadmills and car.

Camperdown Zoo has animals outside and a huge play park - zip wires and tyre swings.

There’s a massive sandpit at the urban beach, as @BlameItOnTheBlackStar said.

Olympia swimming pool has flumes with lights and music.
