Parking in Edinburgh

Thinking of taking the DC to Edinburgh for a couple of nights between Christmas & NY. Will likely stay in a Premier Inn or similar as not in the hotel very much.

Loads of choice with accommodation but parking is an issue as obviously very ££££. We used to live in Edinburgh in the early 2000's so fairly familiar with the city and wondered if there was another cheaper option, something like park in Leith or similar, leave the car, taxi to the hotel and then taxi back a couple of days later. Any recommendations or ideas?

You can leave your car at the p and r at Hermiston for up to 3 nights for free. Then get the bus into Edinburgh. Very convenient.

This is where I parked:

Travelodge Edinburgh Cameron Toll

I think we stayed here once. Free parking and I'm sure we walked into the centre (about 30 minutes walk) and also got a bus as it was on a major bus route.

Very basic but was just a bed.

Why leave your car somewhere random and have to ferry luggage via busy public transport though when lots of hotels with a very short ride in to town have parking. Seems madness today consider to me

We just visited Edinburgh. Parked at Hermiston, 3 nights max for free and got bus in..was so easy to do and much better than paying the £86 that NCP wanted!

I used to park in deepest darkest Prestonfield when DC was swimming at the Commie.

You can rent a driveway at someone’s house too if you find somewhere that fits your needs. Can’t remember the name of the website but you should be able to find it on google. Lots of people rent out driveways.

I always stay at Newhaven Premier Inn too.

I stayed at the Leonardo Royal, Haymarket and parking was free. Had a closed sign at car park entrance but was plenty of spaces when we arrived at 3pm.
We ubered in and out of Edinburgh

This is brilliant, thanks so much, I've booked a Premier Inn now with parking at £15 per night which is less bad than the £80 I was anticipating! I might consider the P&R though as that seems a great option! My thought was that an adult, (likely DH) would drop the other person and the DC/luggage at the hotel and then just one person would do the parking/P&R run.

We're really looking forward to it, we've only been back once since we lived there, we were young & child free so stayed at The Balmoral that time (and during that stay I had loads of early pregnancy bleeding with DS so half of it was spent as the hospital) hopefully this will be a much happier trip!

We have stayed in the Premier Inn in York Place which is very central, you get discounted parking at the very nearby multistorey in the Omni centre.

I usually stay at the Marriott on Glasgow Road and it's got a free car park . We normally use the tram to get into the city centre, it's only a 5 minute walk.from the hotel. Plenty of buses stop near the hotel too.

Tomorrowisanewday · 13/09/2021 18:12

I'd echo the PP who suggested the Premier Inn at Edinburgh Park. New hotel, so still clean and fresh. Lots of parking for residents, which isn't charged extra for. The tram stop is immediately across from the hotel, and if you buy a day ticket, you can use it on lots of the Lothian buses. I'm there for business a lot, most of which is in the centre / west end, and it's my first choice.

You can park in one of the side streets off the lower end of Comiston Road (there are some permit spaces but lots that aren’t). Lots of buses from there straight into town.

cannaethink · 14/09/2021 15:17

I see you’ve booked parking but for next time your plan of parking in Leith is a good one. I often park in Leith if I’m needing to go to town. It’s free and a short and usually interesting walk up to town.

I parked in Riego when I picked up DD from Uni in Bruntsfield. It was a really easy place with wide bays. There is also a Premier Inn across the road.

It's at the end of Lothian Road/Lauriston Place, so very well placed for the city (can be walked).
