Hello All,

We are moving to glasgow next month. My son has autism at 2 years old and currently is studying in a small class of 5 kids with 2 teachers by TEEACH system in my country. What make us worry the most is that he is never sit still, non verbal , dont follow and understand the instructions, run around all the time.
Now, I am here and asking if there is any special nursery / place / school for asd kids to study in glasgow.

I believe the early intervention can make the great improvement for asd kids.

Apologies for my poor English.

Have a good day!

I don't know Glasgow.
The education system in Scotland is different from England, so this needs to be answered by those in Scotland, specifically I think.
Hopefully this will give your post a bump for someone who can answer you with more knowledge.

Thanks for your quick replying.

I dont know the education system are different between England and Scotland. I am a Mum who is struggling to look after him sometimes coz I lack of experience to handle asd kid. But, I will try my best to help him to make it through and never lose my hope for him and us. Smile

Hope someone can read my post and reply my concern.

Good day.

Thanks

@MAKJ2 you may want to ask @MNHQ to move your post to the Scottish section of the site where you will probably get more responses. You can report your post (click on the three dots at the bottom of your first post) to ask for it to be moved.

Your son won't get a funded space in a pre- school nursery until 3. Most pre schools and school are inclusive which means a lot of schools have autistic children in them and the child gets extra support. We do have specialist schools but they have children with lots of different needs in them and you need to apply for a space, go through a process then be approved. Blue sky centre around Stirling is good for therapy but private so very expensive. The therapy does help children massively and I personally know of kids who can now speak due to using it.

There's a primary school for autistic/ASD kids attached to Toryglen Primary School in Glasgow (not sure if there is a nursery unit) to which pupils are sent from across the city (or at least, they were). At secondary level, there is an Autism Unit at Govan High and one (for higher functioning young people) at Hillpark Secondary.

Not sure how a child gets assessed to go there: a friend's child was at a mainstream primary and they couldn't cope with the child so they were sent there in about P4. They went on to Hillpark for secondary schooling.

I also know that some/many of the "mainstream" schools have support for autistic/ASD kids.

Just talked with a relative who works in the education department and she says that the policy now is more to develop small units/support within the mainstream schools.

I think buddies nursery specialise in kids with special needs, so may be worth a look. I live near one and it looks really good.

I'm in Scotland. I would be incredibly surprised if you got offered any kind of assessment for autism for a two year old, the earliest I know of is 4-5 so the sort of pre-school age. A fair few two year olds are non-verbal and don't sit still etc, so it's really hard to assess and I think it's something you need to go privately for here. I'm not sure where you are now but I think you would need a diagnosis by the NHS.

Your child will be eligible for nursery funding from 3 and would usually just go to a mainstream nursery - there are children with autism in my son's nursery class.
