I was wondering about all this today too. If ds has a cough and goes for a test does everyone else still need to stay at home till he gets his results like before? Or can we do our thing (all jagged) unless we also get symptoms?
Im thinking we don't all have to stay at home now but I might be wrong....

dementedpixie · 01/09/2021 12:45

Think you're supposed to wait for the test result as its the test that releases from isolation

dementedma · 01/09/2021 12:47

Think mamelon has it pretty much nailed.

tiredoftiers · 01/09/2021 20:46

So if one household member gets a positive test, should you all just go and get tested or do you have to wait til the initial symptomatic one is tested before the rest get the release tests?

MaMelon · 01/09/2021 20:52

We all booked pcr tests once our DD tested positive in her 2 lateral flow tests and the positive line appeared instantly, plus she had the obvious symptoms. Her pcr was positive as we knew it would be, ours were negative. She had booked hers first but we booked ours while she was waiting for her results.

I’ve no idea if that was the right thing to do, but it seemed to make sense to us to get our pcr tests underway as her 2 lateral flows were positive.

ResilienceWanker · 01/09/2021 21:11

I think theoretically you're supposed to wait til there is a positive PCR. Presumably because the day or so that takes to come back gives some time for any virus "brewing" (not a technical term Blush) in other members of the household/ contacts to be at sufficient levels to be identified in a test. In practice, though, I don't think it matters much, as presumably if you were going to catch it, you already would have before the symptoms from the positive person came on, so would already test positive. And if you hadn't caught it yet, waiting a day or so would unlikely make much difference, unless you then came down with symptoms, when it would be worth testing again.

Yarnandneedles · 02/09/2021 04:15

I have a question- DS is currently positive with symptoms and his self isolation ends on Monday. If someone else in the house develops symptoms within that time does he have to extend his isolation? He’s had 1 vaccine so far.

Yarnandneedles · 02/09/2021 04:21

Nhs Scotland website says that repeat pcr tests should not be done as you can remain positive even after the infection has gone. So it would be pointless him having a further test.

rookiemere · 02/09/2021 07:56

@Yarnandneedles I'm pretty sure he doesn't have to extend his isolation as the infectious period is deemed to be the first 10 days.

@MaMelon

You have to wear a mask unless it’s the third Sunday in a month beginning with the letter M and you’re on your way to a football match - in which case you have to wear a yellow pompom hat instead. On the days of the week beginning with S you have to be 1.5 metres away from someone but all other days it’s 2m - unless you’re in the supermarket, in which case it’s 3m - or 75cm if your name begins with the letter T. When you’re in a pub you don’t have to wear a mask unless you’re drunk and you have to sanitise your hands unless you choose not to. On public transport staff won’t enforce mask wearing but if someone isn’t wearing a mask you can call the British Transport Police. You can’t have more than 40 people at a private gathering unless a minimum of 3 of you are carrying guinea pigs.

It’s quite simple really.

😂😂😂😂

Ds was with a group of pals on Friday, mixture of football in the park and xbox in someone's house. One of them has now had a positive lft, waiting for results of the pcr.

The group have split, half of them have taken their kids for a pcr this morning, the other half are saying they are waiting for official notification and they don't have to do anything until then.

So half the kids will be in school tomorrow, half will be at home waiting for test results. Although the guidance seems to suggest that you only have to isolate when waiting for results if you have symptoms and ds doesn't so in theory he could go to school?

This is the guidance we get when I click on the links on the test appointment email. I get different guidance depending on where I look online.

Haven't a clue any more.

StarryEyeSurprise · 05/09/2021 12:10

You could wait for official notification but you know he's been in close contact with a positive case already ( low chance it's a false positive but I likely the friend does have covid). Therefore, I'd take him for a test - possibly wait until tomorrow as it takes 3- 5 days to show.
