What happens if you IGNORE an NHS 'test & protect' text?

Recently moved to Scotland (like 3 months ago)
exH lives locally, I live at home with 2 teens.
ExH and I both double jabbed, neither teen is yet
(ds due 1st jab at school next week)
ExH has had a Test & protect text earlier today advising him to get a PCR test as 'close contact of someone who has tested positive for Covid'.

Only he didnt' tell me until he had been into house (briefly) to see kids!
So, do we ALL now need to get PCR tests?
We have lateral flow tests in the house is that good enough?
If so, how do we get one please?

exH tells me he has no intention of getting a test or self isolating.
Will NHS Scotland Know? Surely they can trace it?
(he is down as 2nd parent contact at school - will they know?)

Ugh. Furious.

He should be isolating till gets result of pcr . If its negative and he's double jabbed he can carry on as normal

He shouldn't have seen the kids clearly but it's done now.

You are a contact of a contact so unless he tests positive you don't need to isolate

If he doesn't test he should isolate for 10 days.

I have never known test and protect to check up on isolation or tests .Once notified that's it

latissimusdorsi · 27/08/2021 17:55

He should test but you and kids do not as you are not a contact of a positive case.

If exH gets pcr and it's negative then he doesn't need to isolate as he's double jabbed. I don't think testing is legally enforced though by test and protect

52andblue · 27/08/2021 18:50

Thank you. He has said he won't test as he might have to stay off work.

I was worried that anyone who lived with / had close contact with someone who'd been notified they needed a pcr would have to test or isolate too.

Where do you get a pcr does anyone know?

sorry to be dense the rules are different in england but we've been lucky so far and not had to test anyway (apart from routine lateral flow re school and those all negative) so rather dense about it all.

The Govt websites don't seem to clarify things much

in my defence (can you tell I'm feeling defensive, not from response on here which is kind and helpful but because I feel I should know this)

my son was saying today that someone was asking a teacher at school (High School, 4 cases so far out of about 1200 kids so really low) but he said they said that they didn't know either.

So I don't know what I should do if I got a similar text re one of hte kids, which no doubt I will do at some point. I need to find out pronto!

If required you'd book a PCR test. There may be testing centres you can go to without an appointment but that depends on your area.

You dont need to test as a contact of a contact

prettybird · 27/08/2021 18:57

PCR tests are coming back within a day and there are walk-in testing centres available (but I appreciate that I live in urban central Scotland so they might not be so convenient for everyone).

If he is positive but refuses to get tested "just in case" Hmm to confirm, then he and people like him are the reason that the rates are increasing again Angry

rookiemere · 27/08/2021 19:25

I believe it's just the person notified now that needs to get tested. If someone in the household had symptoms then I think you all need to isolate until they get a negative PCR.

Numbers are going up - it's pretty inevitable with schools, bars, venues etc more or less fully open, but if directly told to get a PCR then he really should as the results generally come back within a day.

Yes, I agree. He works on public transport too. I think he'll get in trouble if he is caught, he says the scheme is voluntary and they've no way of tracing you anyway so he's prepared to risk it. Maybe he is technically correct but I still thinks he's an Idiot!

I am glad the kids and I don't need to isolate (as long as we feel well)
But now I feel like I don't want him over the step / around kids as I don't trust him to be straightforward about it.

Won't 'someone' ie the person who tested postive / the Govt / his work / the kids school etc KNOW that he ignored the text? Surely?
Is it really all purely relying on people's goodwill & commonsense?

Sorry if I am being dense (I am sure I am) but this seems crazy if so?

Follow the link pp gave. Will show you local test centres. How is your ds getting a vaccine at school though, I haven't heard of that happening anywhere yet?

Mistressiggi · 27/08/2021 19:48

If he won't test he needs to isolate for ten days (or however long it is since his contact.) Even if he refuses to test, you should isolate from him. I'd feel like telling his employers, but then for all I know it's the employer encouraging his attitude

52andblue · 28/08/2021 09:49

@Mistressiggi
the LEA sent an email yesterday to say that the local High Schools are holding Vaccination clinics one day each this coming week. Good idea.

I looked at the links, thank you but it's still not clear where you get a PCR test from? I guess you order one by post, do the test then post back?

Just wondering what the routine would be if I got one on my phone re the kids? presumably that would be some sort of School link?

sorry, not woken up yet !!

Apologies the Gov site won't let me copy the link. If you just type into Google, scotland book a pcr test it'll direct you to the Gov website. When you put in your address they will give you options of the nearest centres. Quicker to go to a centre than order a postal one.

Mistressiggi · 28/08/2021 09:59

Using that link, go to the bit that says "start guide" and keep going!
I can't imagine why you would order a postal test unless you live very far from the nearest testing centre. They have sprung up all over the place - library near us is hosting one, for example. You'd have to isolate till you got the result so I would prefer a test the same day and the result the next day!

You follow the links to get a test if required. You do the same thing whether the school tells you to or test and protect tells you to. It will tell you sites you can visit and whether you need an appointment for them

What LA are you in

I didn't realise schools were being used as vaccination centres

Popitdontstopit · 28/08/2021 12:44

It's only 16 and 17 year olds that can currently get jabbed in Scotland (some younger with specific conditions or family members too, I believe, but there's no general roll out under 16.

If you get a text from test and protect it will tell you what you need to do and how to do it

The NHS inform website walks you through various scenarios. Nice and clear

52andblue · 29/08/2021 11:26

Thanks @Bloodypunkrockers
We looked as a family on Friday but it didn't seem that clear to us.
I am in the South of Scotland.
