Totally confused - DS tested positive for Covid

Can’t think straight and can’t understand the NHS site.

DS 17 (S6) tested positive via LFT tonight. He did a LFT this morning and nothing came up on the test stick - no lines at all. He thought it was a dud and didn’t have time to do a 2nd test as he was running late and his Dad said take another one tonight.

He came home from school with another headache (had one yesterday too apparently) and it’s positive.

I’m currently in England and am due home tomorrow - I left Scotland early Saturday morning. So we’re having phone calls galore and am getting advice from people down here but I’m sure rules are different (have been living in a relatively mask-less, embrace-everyone world for past 3 days but that’s another story)

DS has ordered up PCR tests via NHS and I think we’ll get 4 for the household? I don’t know if it’s quicker to do a drop-in clinic but then surely you can’t go if you’ve got symptoms? My DP says he’s feeling a bit rough... I’m OK so far DD is too.

DP and I are double vaccinated. We have no more lateral flows in the house. I’m travelling by train back up to Scotland tomorrow.

Does anyone know what the isolation rules are now - I’m totally confused and a little bit frazzled. And poor DS has been helping chaperone and guide new S1 pupils at his school - did he pick it up off them? Or has he passed it on to any of them? They’ve been wearing masks but maybe they’re not that effective?

Noooo. Ignore me! I’ve just worked it out. Dud LFT in the morning, did it that night. Not the night before and retested in the morning. Sorry. As you were. Flowers

latissimusdorsi · 24/08/2021 09:10

Good luck @Covids
Hope it works out ok for you.
And hope your son and partner are feeling ok

Thats true!! Surely after the first positive lft he shouldn't be at school?

ssd · 24/08/2021 09:46

Oh christ apologies,,i cant think straight either

Covids · 24/08/2021 10:54

ssd 😊

Anyone else? 😂

Honestly my usual eye for detail has gone out the window and I was in a right flap having my drive-through PCR because they make you do it yourself down here when I wasn’t expecting to. They did it for me at Glasgow airport last year. I was gagging and sneezing - made a right show of myself!

My ds is going there later to get one done....fingers crossed you're both negative

SeasonFinale · 24/08/2021 12:42

May I ask why after a negative LFT you DS went to school??

RavingAnnie · 24/08/2021 12:58

My DH tested positive for covid last Tuesday. I was symptomatic. It took two PCRs and two LFTs before I received my positive PCR test on Saturday just gone. I heard this happening to others which is why I kept testing. Thankfully I self isolated anyway despite the new guidance. Just something to be aware of.

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 13:04

@SeasonFinale

May I ask why after a negative LFT you DS went to school??
Because it was... negative? Hmm
Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 24/08/2021 13:14

I have covid. My boyfriend also has it.
I got pcr on Friday positive Saturday. My 2 youngest had been with me at start of week, pre symptoms then at dads all 3 got a pcr all negative. 2 who live with me all the time negative too, had pcr can go back to school as under 18 and older son is double jabbed.
So just us 2 sat in doing each other’s heads in.
We also all did our own pcr via drive thru test centre
Hope your son ok op, and you’re managing to get home ok such a stressful time.

My family’s PCR test cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow in Cumbernauld - my DP is raging. I should get my results by midnight tonight. System not working so well in Scotland but maybe they’re just overloaded?

Just got my negative result at 2am so can get back to Glasgow later today. Results came back to me 17 hours after test. Impressed by efficiency of service down here in England.

I’ll get back home to Glasgow before the rest of my family have even managed to have their test (they tried to book a test appointment before me and my DS had a positive LFT)

I hope at least that their results come back as quickly as mine.

That's great news @Covids
You must be very relieved!

You'll be glad to get home,
Hope DS and DP are ok

ssd · 25/08/2021 08:14

Brilliant @Covids, fingers crossed for the rest of the family

Can i just ask as I'm confused, if someone in the family has symptoms and goes for a test, does everyone else in the family need to isolate until they get the results through?

ssd · 25/08/2021 08:16

Im in Scotland

AnotherBrightSunrise · 25/08/2021 09:42

Yes, they do, I just looked up the same. www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-test-and-protect/pages/who-needs-to-self-isolate/

Covids · 25/08/2021 09:51

Yes, I’ll keep my distance from my family until their PCR results come through and then act accordingly. Had to download the NHS England App to log my result as I couldn’t use the NHS Scot app to log the results of a test taken in England.

So to update. DS 17 tested positive on LFT Monday. Got appointment at test centre for 4pm next day. That got cancelled by text on day. Got rescheduled appointment but in Cumbernauld (they’re in East Dun) at 11am today. DP Drove to Cumbernauld with DS and DD only to be told when they got there that ‘our systems are down, here’s a home test kit to send off’.

I can feel my DP’s rage from here.

Meanwhile I’m on the train back to Glasgow from England where I booked a test on late Monday night for 09.30 Tuesday Morning, and received my negative result at 2am this morning (Weds).

It’s an utter, utter shambles in Scotland no matter what impression of calm, ‘control’ Nicola is trying to project. Surely to God they anticipated an uptick in testing when the schools went back?

Arghh how frustrating

ToooOldForThis · 25/08/2021 19:24

So sorry for all your hassles, glad you're negative. I've had a positive dd at home the past 10 days, the rest of us had negative pcrs and are going about our business (which seems weird)
Our testing situation was amazingly smooth, as it was for all dds close contacts. Results in 15-20 hrs. So huge variation by authority by the sounds of it

Covids · 25/08/2021 20:34

Tooold it got worse for us - my family came home and did the PCR tests then realised there were no labels with the barcodes to return them as they were obviously the kits they use at the test sites and not the ones that get posted out - 119 no help. Said that they couldn’t communicate with Cumbernauld but we could drive over again this evening and they might be open but they might not. My DP then went out again and bought some LFT to test himself and my DD - he tested positive my DD negative. We’re hoping that the PCRs my DS ordered on Monday turn up. School are asking what situation is as they need to know if DS is definitely positive and whether DD is also positive but we can’t say because we haven’t done PCRs.

I’m sleeping on the sofa tonight while the rest of my family stay in their rooms.
