Carnoustie; If I love St Andrew's?

I love St Andrew's; shops, restaurants, beach, the historical sites. I like how small and relatively remote it is.

Is Carnoustie at all similar? Do you think I'd like it for a short break? Thanks 😊

Have you been to North Berwick? It’s got a very St. A’s vibe. Boutique shops, castles, beach etc.

Agree about North Berwick - I'd say it was closest in vibe

Carnoustie is nothing like St Andrews! No quaint little shops, just a fairly long and in some bits quite decrepit Main Street. Broughty Ferry would be better. Don’t get me wrong, I like Carnoustie to visit the beach or walk the dog but it’s not St Andrews. If you want that side of the Tay then Broughty Ferry has some nice wee shops and a pleasant walk beside the river, and a good beach. Also has a decent range of restaurants and close to Dundee for museums etc.

I lived in Carnoustie for a couple of years having been brought up in Broughty Ferry, and couldn’t escape fast enough!
The only link between Carnoustie and St Andrew’s is golf. Ona. Saturday afternoon Carnoustie dies and tumbleweed rolls down the High St, in comparison people actively head for Broughty Ferry at the weekend

Definitely try North Berwick, or Peebles.

Carnoustie is a good break for young kids with a splash park and big playground on the front, but agreed not for a quaint or historical vibe.

I can't imagine going to Carnoustie for much more than an hour or 2 tbh. Visit to the beach/park with the kids and maybe get an ice cream. The high street has nothing remotely interesting. Actually that's not true, there may be a shop that interests you but it will probably be just one shop, there isn't much of it and it's flower shops/barbers/newsagents - a couple of quirky places but not worth going for.
