Living in Broughty Ferry.

I'm asking on behalf of my Mother who is considering moving there. Does anyone have any experience of the place? Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. She's also heard good things about Wormit but unlike Broughty Ferry, she hasn't been there in person yet.

TIA

Wormit definitely doesn't have as many facilities as Broughty Ferry. There are plenty of large supermarkets pretty close by and an M&S, Tesco express and loads of independent shops in the high street of Broughty Ferry. There is a train station and plenty of busses for when she doesn't drive. To be honest, it is busy for parking, but I have never not been able to park either. If she is planning to move there and stop driving though, presumably she will be looking at somewhere within walking distance or a short hop on a bus to the high street, so probably less of an issue for now anyway.

I’m originally from Dundee, when we visit we have at least one day in BF. I love it there.

WeeFae · 17/08/2021 07:23

It has lovely boutique-style shops and some amazing places to eat! I especially love the tapas bar Sol y Sombre.

There is a huge Sainsburys close by and the bus/rail link into the city centre is pretty good.

It's lovely. I have friends in nearby Balmerino and they regularly go to the Ferry for shopping and stuff.

Yeah the Broughty ferry is nice and PP's have given a good run down, the parking can be difficult, but only near the shops. I'm sure it'd be a fab place to retire to!

I love the charity shops, better than the Dundee ones!

doscervesas · 17/08/2021 08:39

Having said that it's flat, some of the residential streets are quite hilly.

Worth bearing in mind for future years if she decides to move there.

Love Broughty Ferry. It's top of my list of places I want to retire to when the DC leave home. We used to live in Dundee and head over to walk the dog on the beach. It's got everything you want day to day but near the city when you need it. We stayed there recently and even got a direct train into Edinburgh.

PurplePosies · 17/08/2021 19:50

I live in the Ferry and absolutely love it. Best decision I ever made.

CaraMingle · 18/08/2021 15:13

Thank you all so much. It's nice to hear so many positive things about it and I really appreciate the advice. She was also considering looking into Perth but Broughty seems to be near perfect for her and she'd prefer to be nearer the coast. I may also look into another few areas on the East Coast but it's definitely the number one contender.

I’m Broughty born and bred and wouldn’t live anywhere else. I haven’t been into Dundee city centre for the best part of 2 years. A lot of people retire to the Ferry, although house prices are a bit mental just now and don’t show any signs of slowing.
Loads of independent businesses which people support well, and residents do seem to take a pride in the area

JudgeRindersMinder · 26/08/2021 15:07

I’m wondering how many of us on this thread actually know each other 😂

Brenna24 · 01/09/2021 22:25

Hahaha. Probably a good few of us.

PurplePosies · 02/09/2021 14:41

Ha ha there's a distinct possibility!

I have relatives in the Ferry. Always seems sunny on visits. Really good range of shops, excellent NHS dentist close to Markies with disabled access. I know people who take the train from Edinburgh for the dentist alone! There is a well to do vibe, lots of older folk in the cafes. I think if your mum has a penchant for tea and a scone that she will find her tribe fairly easily.

IM0GEN · 03/09/2021 18:43

I’m LOL at the posters who live in the ferry but wouldn’t set foot in Dundee. Next we will have those who live in west ferry saying that they are scared to walk down the town as it’s so rough Grin.

Tea and a ‘sconn’ of course in Fyvies!

Watch it! I’m only 51 and sconning is my favourite way to spend a couple of hours!😂
