Spa hotel Scotland or north of England?

For a mother/daughter night away for me and 19 year old DD.

Any recommendations?

Would definitely book something south of the border unless you want to spend your spa day masked up.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 10:30

masks still required in spas?

Who knows. Probably. When getting up and walking around.

MotherofTerriers · 09/08/2021 10:33

Sheraton Edinburgh had a fire and the pool and spa was closed, so check its open before booking there

If you are considering North England or Scotland, maybe have a look at the covid regulations, they were stricter in Scotland which might mean fewer spa facilities open. Maybe not any more but worth a check

ElephantOfRisk · 09/08/2021 10:35

Maybe not what you are looking for, but the Stirling Highland has spa facilities. I'm not a spa person so don't know much about those. Crieff Hydro? Bit of a trek for one night, but the Auchrannie on Arran?

MotherofTerriers · 09/08/2021 10:35

I would have said Stobo - been 2 or 3 times a year for years - but its very booked up and recent reviews haven't all been positive - menus no longer change daily, and covid means pool access may be restricted, so I'd check before you book as its expensive and there isn't a lot to do there other than spa and treatments

GoAwayCat · 09/08/2021 10:39

There's a fairly big spa at centre parcs as well. We've always enjoyed it when we've gone but it's been midweek out of school holidays so really quiet.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 10:44

I don’t really like spas either but DD would enjoy it, and struggling to think of something to do that’s not just out drinking!

It has to be a weekend too, so loads of places are booked for months.

I’ll look though- cheers for all the suggestions.

Oh.. I know it’s not glamourous but has anyone been to the Westerwood at Cumbernauld?

I went to Gleneagles in July. Was fabulous. My therapist was happy for me to take my mask off. But my friend had to wear hers.

Lidlfix · 09/08/2021 12:32

Had a spa day at Westerwood a couple of years ago, it was okay for what we paid 2 treatments afternoon tea type deal. Spa is more like a hotel pool with jacuzzi, sauna etc and was noisy with swimming lessons being held. Did a similar deal at the Norton (but more expensive) and it was better. If you don't mind a hotel with facilities rather than destination spa The Apex in Dundee has a nice pool area which is nice for relaxing.

Selkiesarereal · 09/08/2021 22:04

If you can get a place I would always go for Gleneagles as it’s really a cut above the rest.

I wouldn’t go back to the Blythswood for a spa, it brands itself as 5 star but is nowhere near.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 22:07

I might try for a day pass to Gleneagles. The rooms are just mental prices just now.

Or look for another activity day for a chubby old woman and a youngster 😃

Macdonald inshyra has nice leisure and spa facilities. It's not blythswood or Stobo standards though but nice day out nonetheless.

The village hotels in Edinburgh and Glasgow both have nice spas too and the Hilton in Glasgow as well.

Or there's Airth Castle or the Dalmahoy.

riverrunning · 10/08/2021 07:55

Crief Hydro Spa is nice but not huge - had good treatments though.
The new John Lewis in Edinburgh in the St James Quarter has a new beauty place - that might be worth a try although it's not a hotel destination

titsintiers · 10/08/2021 08:26

What about Lochside Hotel? Spa was lovely last time I was there although it was about 7 years ago. I'm sure there are lodges there too now.

clpsmum · 10/08/2021 08:34

Lodge on Loch Lomond or the Sheraton in Edinburgh, auchrannie on Arran too

WouldBeGood · 10/08/2021 08:45

Nowhere has weekend availability! Or is extortionate.

Maybe next year…

How south are you willing to go? Titanic spa near Huddersfield is amazing. It’s a spa that has lovely accommodation and does evening meals and has a gin / Prosecco bar.

Zhx3 · 10/08/2021 08:55

It's not one of the big name spas, but I've always found the Spa by Kasia at the Grosvenor Pulford, just outside of Chester, to be good value with excellent facilities.

spabykasia.co.uk/

Lots to do over a weekend too, although it might be a bit far for you? Chester is 10 minutes away by car and you're practically in Wales!

namechanging202020 · 10/08/2021 08:58

Cameron house spa is great

GoAwayCat · 10/08/2021 09:32

We've basically abandoned the search for this year too... I'd be happy with a posh hotel room with a big bath to soak in, but we're struggling even to find that.

WouldBeGood · 10/08/2021 10:28

Yes, @GoAwayCat, even a very ordinary hotel anywhere is madly overpriced.

Cazziebo · 11/08/2021 07:12

I was really disappointed with Stobo. Too busy, inexperienced therapists, nowhere to sit around the pool (as too busy!)

Had a wonderful time at the Sheraton. Superb therapists, very spacious, lovely.

Friends recommend Fonab at Pitlochry. I'm off to Gleneagles today.....

Crazysheep · 11/08/2021 07:38

Very outing but Seaham Hall is pretty much in my back garden and although it's very beautiful the wedding disco's every weekend keep me awake so I would book with caution on a weekend especially when it's not cheap.
