Has anyone had an appointment yet? It said on NHS Lothian Facebook yesterday that those who registered would get an appointment sms/email within a few hours. I registered my son and have heard nothing. The post I read now seems to have been amended too.

My son is 18 but registered for his and had his appointment within about 3 weeks. Maybe it will be the same?

Bluepeach · 07/08/2021 14:06

16 and 17 year olds can apparently go to drop ins from Tuesday, but it definitely implied on the Facebook page that they could go even sooner if they registered. We are off on holiday tomorrow so had my fingers crossed my 16 year old could get done today.

Our local drop in is taking 16 and 17 year olds as of Wednesday this week.

I registered ds yesterday and the site clearly said he would get an email in a couple of hours to confirm they had matched the details entered with his nhs record and he had been registered for a vaccine. It didnt say he would have an appointment.

It said appointments would be notified as soon as possible when there was availability and pfizer vaccine available at a local centre.

Bluepeach · 08/08/2021 06:05

@WeAllHaveWings and did you get the email? We didn't get anything.

I requested contact by text and got it about 20mins later this is what it said -

NHS Scotland Test and Protect: Thank you for submitting your details to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

We have successfully matched your records and we will send you details of your first vaccination appointment soon. This can take a few weeks and is dependent on vaccine supply, so please do not worry and thank you for your patience. Please wait to be contacted.

To give us feedback on this service, please fill in our quick survey: www.nsssurvey.scot.nhs.uk/954535?lang=en

@WeAllHaveWings

Just checked and ds got email too at the same time. He registered 9pm on Friday so it is probably automatic, perhaps there was a problem matching your request to your nhs records that needs manual intervention on Monday.

Sarcobaleno · 09/08/2021 17:23

DS registered on Friday. Got an appointment for vaccine on Friday. Can't complain about that service.

Bluepeach · 09/08/2021 21:55

@Sarcobaleno where are you based?

My daughter registered on Friday, got appointment for next Saturday, but went to drop-in centre today got it

TeenTraumaTrials · 10/08/2021 22:00

DD16 went to drop-in yesterday morning without registering and got hers. I'm so relieved. Just wish they had made the decision for this age group sooner

NotMrsTumble · 10/08/2021 22:02

Took ds (16) and 2 friends to a drop in yesterday (nhs greater glasgow & clyde). All received vaccine no issue.

Poshjock · 10/08/2021 22:10

I was vaccinating 16-18 yo yesterday (Tayside NHS) at the drop in and Fife NHS are also advertising drop in this week.

How are your teens post vac? Ds had his yesterday morning, absolutely fine except he can't lift his injection arm higher than shoulder level.

NotMrsTumble · 12/08/2021 18:50

DS is absolutely fine. Sleeping till noon, but that is nothing new and definitely not vaccine related. God help us when school goes back next week and he needs to be in for 9.

dementedpixie · 15/08/2021 18:16

My dd got hers yesterday in lanarkshire. She had registered on the portal and had been sent an appointment by text

She seems OK and hasn't complained of pain or fever

WeAllHaveWings · 15/08/2021 18:28

Arm pain was only there for ds the day after the jag, fine the following day.

Most of his friends and my friends 16-17yr old dc seem to have had their first dose now and no significant after effects. He says everyone he knows is going for it, noone deciding not to which is hopefully good news with them going back to school next week.

Does anyone know what the plans are for if/when they will get their 2nd dose?

WeAllHaveWings · 15/08/2021 18:30

Nevermind, found it

“In line with the latest JCVI advice we will now be offering a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to young people aged between 16 and 17.

“The programme has always carefully assessed all the benefits and potential risks and offered vaccine to groups where this benefit is clear. The research and evidence shows that is the case for this age group and they should now be called forward for an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine.

“We will continue to follow the expert JCVI advice and will await the outcome of analysis of data on second doses for this age group and any additional future advice on vaccination for those in the 12-15 age group.”
