Secondary Students Covid Testing

We have just moved to Scotland from overseas. I read that the same covid restrictions will be in place as Term 3 for the first 6 weeks. What I can't find is what that actually means. Will the kids have to self administer covid tests? Do we just order those from the NHS? I am totally clueless and not finding any clear info online.

Yes, order them online

LizzieMacQueen · 06/08/2021 08:16

You can pick them up from chemists too. That's what we do.

Bluepeach · 06/08/2021 08:40

Thanks - and how often do they take them?

Our school distribute them to pupils. They're handing them out next week on the inservice days for the start of the new term. Might be worth checking out with the school or council

Ours are being asked to take one on Sunday and Wednesday (South Lanarkshire)
LoopyGremlin · 06/08/2021 08:48

You can order them for free online. It’s suggested they test twice per week. I personally do Sunday and Wednesday! It isn’t mandatory though so you don’t have to do it.

LizzieMacQueen · 06/08/2021 09:19

If you do test, please remember not to eat or drink (other than water) for 30 minutes before your test.

cocopops · 06/08/2021 09:26

@bluepeach. They are not mandatory …….

TheGenealogist · 06/08/2021 12:56

They're not mandatory. Our school "encouraged" students to collect lateral flow tests from the school office in batches and do them twice a week.

Nobody is checking to see who is picking up tests and who isn't. Teachers are not questioning children or parents to see who is testing. Some parents are testing their kids, but not bothering to upload negative results.

So do it if you want to do it, if not, no big deal. My kids aren't doing them because they don't want to, and I'm not inclined to force them.

Well, it is a big deal if the school closes because a pupil has come in positive and spread it far and wide....

Schools will have a supply and will give them out to pupils who have consented

Or you can order online
