Family eating out in Glasgow on a budget

After a really helpful thread about eating out in Dundee I thought I'd ask for help about us going to Glasgow for a last minute couple of days as a family.

Dh (meat eater/lactose intolerant) me, vegan and gluten free and ds 10 and 17 who eat anything.

After a great buffet style Indian restaurant in Dundee it would probably be a good idea to find something similar as that usually has things for all of us. Not against a chippy in the park either one night if it's nice enough weather. Noodles or thai or chinese also go down well.
Nothing to flash or expensive.

We will get breakfast in the hotel and probably just buy lunch from a shop as we mooch about.

Any particular restaurants anyone can recommend? We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn and will probably go to Kelvingrove musem, Transport Museum and the Botanics as well as just wander about. Any other cheap or free things to do? To be honest the youngest is just happy to be going to a city and staying in a hotel.

Lebowskis do a decent burger and you can view their allergen menu online Smile. Good for a drink even if you don’t eat there. Lots of good curries in Glasgow though sock maybe you’d find that a better option for you.

If you like street food then platform at the arches might be a good option, it's right beside Glasgow Central station.

Paesano pizza is great value - always busy but quick turnarounds. There's one in town and one in Finnieston.

Thanks Everyone
We had such a ball. Glasgow was so much fun.
Food was not an issue at all, apart from the hotel breakfast but that was okay, I took a breakfast bar and my own oat milk for a coffee.

Loop and Scoop was the highlight, a churro and gelato place up on Great Western Road that did 4 vegan gf gelato flavours. A subway ride in the evening, an hour or more wait in the queue and then it got cold as we ate it on the way back to the station. Worth every delicious moment.

Thanks to the PP who suggested voucher deal sites. We got a delicious meal at Viva for £20 for all 4 of us. I had vg/gf pasta and the others had pizzas and calzones.
We had a burrito/naked burrito in a sunny George square which turned out quite expensive for what we thought was a cheaper takeaway meal but it was very filling. A couple of picnics from the supermarket for lunches, one by the skate park at kelvingrove.

We did the transport museum and the ship, kelvingrove museum and stood around watching some of the filming of Indiana Jones. Really was a super wee trip. My youngest was very excited to hop on and off the subway. Grin

Thanks for all your tips. Getting tickets booked for the museums was a really good idea.

So glad to have spotted this thread, we’re going to Glasgow for a few days next month so thanks for some really good ideas!

@Breathmiller Glad you had a lovely time!! I lived in the city centre for 4 years while studying and it’s a really great city 😊

@clare8allthepies Have a great time! Do you have anything nice planned for when you’re there? 😊

Thank you! So far we have one event booked at the Edinburgh festival for the days when we are there but the only thing we have planned for Glasgow so far is a trip on the open top tour bus

I walk past Loop and Scoop several times a week and it's always busy. Even in winter. Their churros are very nice it has to be said! The last few businesses that have been on that site have floundered pretty quickly so it's good to see this one doing so well.

Breathmiller · 16/07/2021 12:18

I'm not sure I could easily walk past Loop & Scoop. Grin

Now, if they ever do a gluten free churro then I might move in with you damson

@clare8allthepies Edinburgh is great too! Sounds like you’ll have a lovely time! If you happen to be in Edinburgh for breakfast or just fancy a good coffee & cake then I highly recommend Mimi’s Bakehouse 😊 or if you fancy pizza then Civerinos Slice is great 👍🏻

Try the Itison Glasgow website or 5pm.com for some good deals for set meals.
