funeral notice in shop window (Scotland)

DMIL passed away recently and I asked the funeral director about putting a notice in the local post office window, and the woman looked at me like I had two heads. I thought this was always done? Is this a just something niche to north Scotland? I thought it was quite normal, and actually think it's a good way of letting the more elderly villagers know (as they maybe don't use social media so much). The death notice will go in the local paper too, but this is just a A5 notice that goes in the local shop window.

I've googled it and have come up with nothing, no images or anything, but I'm sure it's a thing. Anyone else remember this? and has it completely died out with social media (no pun intended)?

Photos would be helpful, I'm sometimes left wondering which old person it is, there are lots I know by sight but not name as i see them out on daily walks or in their gardens, until I realise I haven't seen them for a while... There was an old couple who used to walk along holding hands, they were very old and wore hand knitted woolly hats and matching old - fashioned macs. One day there was only one of them and then he was gone too, never knew their names. I better stop before I start greeting!

I live in Scotland but used to live in England (south west) in a smallish village deaths and funerals were posted on the village Facebook page, local shop and village run library. Im now living in a tiny village in southern Scotland we have an amazing village shop a couple of months ago a death/funeral date and time was put up in the shop window.
