Hi, looking for recommendations of days out or things to do in and around Fort William.

Staying 3 nights in august and want to see the train pass over Glenfinnan viaduct (Potter fans) but otherwise we've nothing planned.

Kids are 7 and 9. Thanks

Tubing at Glencoe, great fun.

We are going at the end of August so watching for tips. Sounds like there’s absolutely loads to do!

Definitely get to Glenfinnan early. The carpark is massive now, but I've had the misfortune to drive past just as the train is on the viaduct, a number of times. Drivers go bonkers doing emergency stops, u turns and reversing at speed...makes me wistful for when people went to look at the monument, not the viaduct behind themGrin

Rafting on the River Ness is lovely!

Go to Channory (sp?) point to see the dolphins.

If it is pouring, the climbing centre in an old church in the centre of the Fort is good for a couple of hours.

Was coming to say Glencoe and around. Glencoe visitor centre is nice, clachaig inn - there is a Harry Potter link too as Hagrid's hut from the films was very close to Clachaig a little way up the mountain in glencoe, I saw it years back. Shame they removed it!

Ardnamurchan is amazing but it's a fairly long drive from fw.

Just been to glencoe it’s beautiful ! Amazing walks seemingly everywhere and great fish restaurant along the loch.

Chanonry Point is quite a trek from Fort William! You could probably get a wildlife cruise in Loch Linnhe and see dolphins.
Camusdarrach beach is beautiful and in low tides you can walk from Morar. There’s a few coves so you may well find yourselves a beach to yourselves.
Loch Morar is stunning - well kept secret!
Neptune’s Staircase is amazing - could watch it for hours.
Ice Factor at Kinlochleven is a good day out and the Glencoe centre was good but I haven’t been in since it’s refurbishment. There was a fab story telling centre just north of Ballachullish which my DCs loved but I don’t know that it’s still there.

Have a brilliant time - so much to do and see.

Be aware the parking situation around all the Arisaig / Morar beaches has been tricky all summer so you might find it a challenge to get parked. There is a tiny car park for Camusdarach, then it’s mostly just along the road (but NOT in the passing places!).

My kids used to love Nevis Range, but pick a sunny clear day for it. There’s a short walk at the top to a viewpoint which is worth the 20mins or so it takes. There are nice walks in the forest and a Rope course in the trees if you fancy that.

Urquhart Castle is a great shout too as the drive there is really nice and you can stop at Fort Augustus too. There used to be a Loch Ness visitor centre in Drumnadochit just past the castle, which I’m sure will still be there and my two loved - we found it less interesting 🤣 but it’s Nessie, so it has to be done!
