Glasgow West End Nursery/DayCare recommendations?

Hello!
We are moving to Hillhead area in Glasgow in September, and was hoping for some suggestions and recommendations for nurseries/daycares in the area. Our son will be 1 in October, and I'll be returning to work (WFH, as my office is based in Belfast). My partner will be doing research part time at the university, so will be uni staff. Does anyone have any experience with the university nursery?

Any other suggestions? Also not sure what this is likely to cost, if anyone can give us a ballpark on this that would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance!!

I'm not too familiar with that area so I can't give a specific recommendation but if you're looking for a place for Sept you should get on a waiting list ASAP. Many nurseries have waiting lists from when children are born for a space.

My son didnt reach the top. Of the list for our preferred nursery before he started school so we had to go with another one that only had a 9-12 month long wait list. With new siblings often getting priority it can be tricky to find a space for a 1yr old. Pre school places are easier to come by as the ratios are higher and some children move onto school nursery.

Costs... Around £50 per day is what I paid a few years ago. This included snacks but not meals. Breakfast was £2 and lunch was £3.50 if you wanted it, or you can send packed lunch.

The university nursery sounded like it was ££££ when we looked into it but had policies relating to availability for academic staff.

I'd look for somewhere convenient to home as your main priority.

Do you have the chance to visit before committing? Definitely try for the Uni Nursery if you’ll be living in Hillhead, but also try Somerset Nurseries - they have two sites across Kelvingrove Park, so a nice walk for you. Their premises didn’t wow me at first visit, but they take the little ones out to the park every day, are well-managed and lovely staff. Call them for their costs, it’s best to get up-to-date info.

Can highly recommend westendmontessoripre-school.com/about-us/management/
Maybe you could consider a childminder until your lo turns 2?

Can't help you with a west end nursery but for costs I'd say roughly £50 per day. Depending on your income you should be able to get a tax free childcare account that you pay money into and the government tops it up by 20%, you then pay your childcare directly from that account.
You might struggle to get a place for September tbh. Ds2 was born in December, I'm not going back to work until January and I still had to put his name down before he was born.
