Thoughts on which tier Glasgow will be in once the football is over?

Lots of people predicted that Glasgow would be released from tier 3 for the Euros, irrespective of the numbers. So what do we think will happen when the Euros are over? And what may happen generally with the roadmap?

Clearly the rules dont make sense and the tiers are inconsistent, so it all seems very political.

Glasgow is in tier 2 at the moment isn't it?

Will probably stay in that tier I reckon

I think Dundee might move up a tier

The crowds watching will be outside in Glasgow so thats much safer. People gathering to watch inside won't be particular just to Glasgow.

ssd · 14/06/2021 07:49

I think if tiers change after the football it will be certain areas not just Glasgow or one particular area

Lockdownbear · 14/06/2021 08:02

I think they'll be an up-roar if they change the teir after it.
Hospitality sector is already saying the fan zone is a slap in the face.
Then there's the contradiction that 6000 people can gather at an outdoor event, yet nurseries aren't allowed to hold socially distanced outdoor graduations for little kids. The same little kids who have spent a quarter of their lifespan under restrictions.

My support for restrictions has completely gone. Its all money, last year you could meet somewhere with a till but not in a house, I'm no longer buying there's any science in it. All money £££

The fanzone is a huge own goal - if you'll excuse the pun !

I would have been ambivalent about it if they had insisted on recorded testing - we need to trial a few of these larger events and see what happens - but in a controlled way.

Sending out kits and imploring the fans to do the test, whilst simultaneously making out that Scotland has been tougher on coronavirus than the rest of the UK, nah that's just stupid.

It's so crazy to sleep walk into an event which will cause the numbers to rocket whilst DCs are simultaneously missing weeks of school for self isolation and people are anxiously hoping their summer plans ( if UK based) can go ahead.

I suspect we'll all be back into Tier 3 before long because of this, and nobody will take it seriously- I'm double jabbed now so I certainly won't be.

I was dubious about the fanzone but it's actually completely safe and no different to going to Glaagow Green of an afternoon to sit on a bench. Tables are 2m distanced, all food and drinks are table service only and visitors are to wear a mask at all times other than at their table. The sunbathers on the Green and the families at the playpark are more at risk than the fans.

rookiemere · 14/06/2021 08:25

@dancemom I doubt that will be the case when Scotland is playing though - mind you I suppose it is going to happen so better to have the crowds in the open air.

user1487194234 · 14/06/2021 08:27

Tier 3 I reckon
The SG have been bounced into allowing the fan zones etc and will want to take back control

dancemom · 14/06/2021 08:27

Quite possibly not but like you say, safer to be group hugging outside in the open than inside pubs.

Plus there will only be group hugging if Scotland do well .... 😆

Iluvfriends · 14/06/2021 08:39

They are deluded if they think football fans are going to sit quietly at their tables. And pubs aren't allowed to have euro themed events and punters must not sing or shout during the game. Setting us all up for a 'people didn't comply with rules, cases have gone up, therefore you're getting locked down again.

ssd · 14/06/2021 08:40

And going by past record there might not be much hugging going on anyway....

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 14/06/2021 09:01

I predict that cases will continue to rise (Scotland seems to be in the midst of another wave anyway and the Euros won't help), but the SG will feel they can't go backwards after making a big song and dance about how safe it all is. Not unless Boris goes backwards first, but I don't think he will. Instead I think they'll keep us all stuck at the same level indefinitely while they 'assess data'. I have an awful feeling there is not going to be a clear cut answer to the question of how much vaccination has de-risked COVID this summer, they'll always want to just do this, that and the other to be a bit 'safer', and then we'll be into the autumn again and the expected seasonal rise in cases. I'm feeling a bit pessimistic this morning, but if we're at level 0 (let alone beyond) by next Spring I'll be amazed.

Invisimamma · 14/06/2021 09:43

I don't think anywhere will move back up levels. But I'm not sure if levels will drop either. Although cases might increase it's hopsitalisations and people being seriously ill that is the key thing, and that doesn't seem to be happening? Hopefully vaccinations are doing their thing.

We're approaching summer holidays and so many industries reliant on the summer trade.

That's not true though. As hospital numbers were very low and stable and still we remained in level 3 even after we were told it was hospital numbers that mattered and not case numbers.

Honestly starting to feel like the end game. Watching the football yesterday and all the comments re the G7 it is becoming very difficult to maintain the fear narrative when the rest of the World is moving on.

Anyone know what the state of affairs is in other countries?

Are they getting on with living?
