I’ve got Amarone booked but wondering where else is decent for an early meal with a 13 and 12 year old? Not keen on Hard Rock Cafe or TGI Friday.

Cafe Andeluz on George Street or George the IV Bridge.

Checkpoint on Bristo Place.

Bar Soba on Hanover Street.

Vittorias on the walk

The Scran and Scallie

I second The Scran and Scallie.
Amazing food, in a v relaxed place and totally fine for kids.

Littlemissweepy · 13/06/2021 18:32

Definitely not Amerone. Food is below average at best.

Littlemissweepy · 13/06/2021 18:37

Would suggest Browns, Scran and Scallie I also agree. Edinburgh has all the usual chains as well (sorry not sure if you are a visitor).

Mama Romas at Calton Hill. Authentic, family friendly Italian.

We all like Gusto

Di Giorgio on Brandon terrace - excellent family restaurant

I would definitely not recommend Scran and Scallie. Ridiculously overpriced pub food. Once had fish pie there and there was very little fish in it but lots of hard boiled egg. I’d go with Cafe Andaluz.

It depends what sort of thing they'd prefer. I know kids that age who'll eat literally anything and others who don't venture far beyond a plain pizza and chicken nuggets.
If you were thinking about burgers then The Red Squirrel and Holyrood 9a pubs (owned by the same people) have an awesome burger menu and allow kids in early evening.
Scran & Scallie is nice but it's expensive unless it's for a special occassion. I always have a dodgy stomach when I eat at Cafe Andaluz!
Howies for traditional scottish sort of food.
Vesta at the West End if you want to also support a social cause.
Whiski Bar for traditional pub grub
Vittorias for Italian and Mamma's pizza at the Grassmarket.
The Outsider on George IV bridge for something a bit different
Dishoom or Mother India's cafe for Indian

My teenagers like The Filling Station in Rose Street, an American style diner which is good for brunch.

denverRegina · 14/06/2021 12:24

Mamma Roma without a doubt

extravirginoliveoil · 14/06/2021 14:07

Thank you everyone. Will definitely look at these.
