I know lots of younger ones still waiting for first dose but has anyone had their second dose yet? And was it at 12 weeks? I’ve just been told by the helpline that mine will be >14 weeks but the health board says it’s fine ( Lothian). Just wondered if anyone else is in the same situation?

@Mistressinthetulips

Are you thinking of phoning them up, Lizzie? I've just checked my calendar and I'm at 7 weeks exactly.
@Mistressinthetulips I don't think I'll bother phoning, I'll just wait for my blue envelope. I hadn't realised the significance of the user name on my 1st letter so I didn't keep it.

I'm late 30s but got my vaccine as an unpaid carer. First dose mid March and second the other day. I'm in Lothian.

@latissimusdorsi

Don't know why Scotland aren't going for 8 weeks. It's JCVI recommendation now
Can you point me in the direction of where the JCVI says this? Confused

All I can find is ongoing guidance that says a maximum of 12 weeks.

I went in with the link this morning and got appointments within 5 mins for dh and me on 1st june.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/05/2021 10:53

for 2nd doses (we are in the 50-55 group, 7 weeks since first dose)

InTheHeatOfTheSun · 21/05/2021 10:55

DH got his second after 8 weeks (at GP). We were moving overseas for a few months and I asked our practice whether it would be possible to have my second just before we left, which would be about 6 weeks after my first. GP left an arsey message for me saying that it was 12 weeks between doses so no of course I couldn't have it. So that's two different messages from one practice in Forth Valley.

@prettybird I originally heard it at Downing st briefing the other day, was Van Tam I think said it they were following JCVI recommendation. Hope that link works. I see it's actually in areas with new variant cases so Glasgow would come into this.

The advice to give second dose after 8 weeks can be found here (among other places, this is the first one google came up with). - dated 14th May so an update on the advice quoted above from 7th May.

www.gov.uk/government/news/most-vulnerable-offered-second-dose-of-covid-19-vaccine-earlier-to-help-protect-against-variants

“ Appointments for a second dose of a vaccine will be brought forward from 12 to 8 weeks for the remaining people in the top 9 priority groups who have yet to receive their second dose. This is to ensure people across the UK have the strongest possible protection from the virus at an earlier opportunity.

The move follows updated advice from the independent experts at the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), which has considered the latest available evidence on the variant and has recommended reducing the dosing interval to help protect the nation from the variant.”

from this particular link it does read that this advice applies throughout the U.K., not just in areas particularly affected by the variants, and is to be supported by “targeted activities” in those areas.

prettybird · 21/05/2021 11:32

Thanks for that Smile - I did try googling but "JCVI guidance on vaccination schedule" only came up with variants of what I found Wink

Personally I'd rather that they continued with the focus on getting everyone their first jags. And I say that as someone who lives in the heart of G41/G42, so right in the middle of the Glasgow hotspot Shock and who had her first vaccination just over 8 weeks ago - and who hasn't yet got the letter for my 2nd jag (dh was 2 or 3 weeks before me and only got his letter this week with a date next week). I'm comfortable with that. Smile

latissimusdorsi · 21/05/2021 11:48

I think @prettybird it may be based on data coming out of Bolton ( but I'm no scientist!Grin)
I heard Jenny Harries say there were 5 people in hospital there who'd had 1 jab but only 1 who'd had both jabs, and that person was frail (where they know immunity isn't always as good anyway)

seepingweeping · 21/05/2021 13:21

My parents and my in laws have all had their second doses within the 12 weeks. Greater Glasgow.

GlasgowsGreen · 21/05/2021 16:10

Glasgow and I’ll have my second 8 weeks and a day after the first. Not sure if this is “hotspot” related as we’ve had the Covid police chapping the doors all week.

Groovee · 22/05/2021 12:14

I got my blue envelope this morning and have managed to rearrange from 2nd June to tomorrow afternoon.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/05/2021 16:57

I am on the outskirts of Glasgow and my 8 weeks are up this week. No letter in the post but when i did missed appointments through a link, they said they would be sending out a letter to me soon but it may take time???
No idea when I will get it but I will be 12 weeks roughly at the end of June. We will see..
It really annoys me how everyone in Scotland is kept in the dark about the second vaccination and where we are with it.
Why on earth they could not have given out an appointment at the time of the first,like in England, I have no idea.
