Numbers up in Moray

Ginsmything · 04/05/2021 22:51

I know this may sound a selfish concern but I’ve read tonight that the numbers are quite high proportionately and if this continues there’s a danger that Moray may not be able to go down a level on May 17.
We are due to go up to Findhorn for our first holiday since 2019 after having to cancel last years big celebration break to Spain for my OHs 60th.
We were so looking forward to this fortnight away but I’m now concerned that travel between levels may be banned again.

It's our schools that are rife with it, local secondary is a hot spot with almost 60 cases and multiple Primarys with atleast 1 class isolating.

Not to mention the B&M and B&Q outbreaks Hmm

It's nuts!

TeeniefaeTroon · 10/05/2021 20:04

I saw B&Q closed at the weekend. I also heard from a reliable source that one of the cases at our local nursery went to work with symptoms on the Monday and hadn't tested on the Sunday. It's so infuriating 🤬

aurea · 11/05/2021 12:52

Well that's likely bad news for Moray (and me!)

Looks like our holiday on 22 May to Moray will be cancelled, but I need a refund before I can book somewhere else, and she's not confirming til end of week 😬. They'll be no other cottages left.

So awful for everyone living there though...

florafoxtrot · 11/05/2021 13:30

So sorry for everyone living in Moray, its awful to feel like you are being left behind. Got quite a lot of family there. Really hoping it starts to calm down soon and there is a move to Level 2 soon.

Calmdown14 · 11/05/2021 21:46

Moray, like Angus, will suffer under the new rules for having such a small population. We moved up a tier last time in part due to a large outbreak on a boat despite the fact it didn’t actually come into the harbour.
I don’t disagree with taking some action in this case as the source is unclear but I do think certain areas will be disproportionately affected by outbreaks in workplaces etc where there are multiple cases if we go by the low per hundred thousand figure going forward

Torvean · 13/05/2021 02:47

Numbers in Glasgow have gone to 58. It will be worth watching.

TeeniefaeTroon · 15/05/2021 09:24

Oh well, that's us in level 3 for at least another week. At least our numbers are coming down though.

florafoxtrot · 15/05/2021 10:21

How you feeling @TeeniefaeTroon? Does look like the numbers were dropping a good bit over last few days and heard a lot of younger ones in Moray being vaccinated this week so fingers crossed the tide starts to turn a bit.

Are they reviewing the decision in a weeks time?

I was pretty resigned to it after Tuesdays announcement. It's a shame for all the pubs and restaurants but hopefully it's just another week. My birthday is on the 31st so hoping I'll get out for a drink or ten on the 30th 😁 The queues for the drop in vaccine centre have been massive but it's great that so many are going for it.
RaraRachael · 20/05/2021 17:18

I see the rates in Moray are down to around 36 per 100 000 from the 90s last week so let's hope we're allowed to go to tier 3 very soon.

latissimusdorsi · 20/05/2021 18:43

It's looking good for you guys in Moray🤞

Meanwhile those of you in East RenHmm

RaraRachael · 20/05/2021 20:12

I just hope NS liberates us soon. I have the ridiculous scenario of living 2 miles from a friend who is over the border. We work together but can't meet for coffee or lunch. Bizarre.

Ginsmything · 20/05/2021 22:07

Fingers crossed for Moray tomorrow, hopefully you will get level 2. 🤞🏻

Torvean · 23/05/2021 01:32

I think NS won't change things after 1 week. If things stay the same or improve I could see you getting it after 2 weeks though.

prettybird · 23/05/2021 09:21

Ummmmm Confused

Moray did come out of Level 3 into Level 2 after just a week. Confused That happened at midnight on Thursday.

Glasgow is still in Level 3 as the cases per 100,000 are still over 100 - and we're being tested thoroughly and everyone over 18s in the most affected postcodes is being invited for vaccination.

Somehow East Renfrewshire, which also has rates of over 100 per 100,000 escaped going into Level 3 Confused (although a friend who's a GP said it was something to do with Public Health being able to identify where/why the clusters had occurred, rather than it being "wild" in the community).

Torvean · 23/05/2021 22:42

Apologies I was not aware Moray got to level 2.

I'm getting fed up of the different restrictions between us and England. They have areas that have higher cases than us , including one of the Indian mutations. Yet they're restriction we're still allowed to reduce and they're talking of removing restrictions in June.

Either we all have health/disease specialist. Or are we too strict and them to lax.

I just want this over (as I'm sure everyone does)

Torvean · 23/05/2021 22:43
  • their restrictions
Haudyourwheesht · 24/05/2021 14:31

She's now ignoring the proportion of cases per 100,000 in small authorities, because 'the numbers are small'. Whereas in Scotland's biggest city / authority the numbers are always going to be big.
By that reckoning, we will never be out of this. Logic has taken a big back seat these days.

Dissimilitude · 24/05/2021 16:54

Glasgow is literally now the only place in any nation in the UK that you aren't trusted to drink a glass of wine with your dinner.

Ridiculous.

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2021 17:12

That is ridiculous @Dissimilitude. Those poor people trying to run businesses. I really feel for them. And people whose celebrations have been cancelled again.

Haudyourwheesht · 24/05/2021 17:59

Plus it's been 7 months since we've been allowed to have a drink in a licensed premises in Glasgow. And the numbers have, while remaining overall higher, have moved generally up and down in line with the rest of the country. Looks like maybe the restricting hospitality strategy isn't working?

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2021 18:19

There has never been any evidence to show that hospitality spreads it. It’s just appalling.

Torvean · 25/05/2021 06:17

@WouldBeGood

There has never been any evidence to show that hospitality spreads it. It’s just appalling.
The outbreak that gave Aberdeen a 3 week lock down was through the hospitality sector. As in all known places listed were all pubs plus some hotels. All started by a selfish person who was told to quarantine after a positive test and they did the exact opposite.

The case numbers being per 100 000 ppl is a fair way to do it as it allows for higher numbers in cities who obviously have a greater population than a small town.

I just wish we could have agreed on a UK agreement on how to manage things.
