Dundee/Broughty Ferry Nurseries

Hi All,

I am looking for some recommendations surrounding nurseries. My wife, myself and our two 4 year old twin daughters will be moving to Dundee in June. I want to try and get some recommendations for nurseries. We will be staying to begin with in a place just outside Dundee as I understand it called Broughty Ferry. Our current nursery is really good, and this move is a huge transition for us all to an unknown city that we have only seen once.

To me, what matters in a nursery is fresh meals, supportive staff and a good mix of playtime and pre-school like learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@Bloodypunkrockers I realised there was a key flaw there when my wife pointed it out to me. The girls are still a year away from actual primary schools and apparently there are a lot of nurseries to choose from around the area. I was hoping there were people whose kids were in said nurseries that might be able to give some feedback. Clearly daddy needs to go back to school to learn to count...

I'm not sure what you mean by preschool learning? Are you moving from outside of Scotland? Scotland is moving towards an entirely play based curriculum until children are around 7yrs old (Primary 3) so if it's formal learning for preschoolers you're looking for that might be hard to find.

Is it a council nursery you need, or private daycare?

The care commission inspectorate website is a good place to start as it should have reports for the nurseries in the area.

I think all nurseries have to follow the curriculum for excellence (runs 3 to 18 years). At your children's age you have a choice between a private nursery or a council one that will often be attached to a primary school. The private nurseries usually run 8am to 6 pm and have very few holidays, whereas the council ones are term time and mostly follow the school times.

You should be entitled to 30 free hours a week during term time, which means that the council nursery/preschool is free and the private ones need a top up depending in how much time you do there.

Can't help with local recommendations since I don't know the area.

Thank you all - the care inspectorate was a great idea, sometimes miss the most simple of potential solutions. :)
