Is it possible an 8/9 year old is in Primary 2?

DD is a winter baby and we chose not to defer so she's recently turned 6.

Other children in her class were deferred and have recently turned 7.

There is one particular boy in her class who is quite a bit taller/broader than all the others. Has been since starting P1. His mum is petite, I don't think I've seen his dad.

I asked DD if "Andrew" was 7 yet and she said, "oh no, he's like 8 or 9".

It's believable but is this possible?

No! But the idea we must all studiously ignore what anyone else does is silly.

It could be that your child is mistaken about his age. My ds had a friend, "James" in his class who was tall. One day when they were in year 1, "James" left the school. Ds told me that "James" had got too big for their class so he was going to secondary school! I didn't believe that for a moment but ds was convinced it was true.

As stated above 7 yr olds would be the oldest if deferrals. Children entering from another country's education system can also account for a child who is older/ should be in the year above . However, its highly unlikely they are significantly older as you describe. Probably just a tall child / well developed child who may be a little older to and has reached mythological status amongst the P2s😂
