Why are vaccinations so slow in Edinburgh?

Just that really... Only 27 per cent of the population had been 'done' so far, when I checked this am. What's up?

I think it's to do with the age profile for cities which is much younger but surely you just work at capacity and just get through everyone? Can't please everyone though as some would moan that Edinburgh was doing 40 plus age group while others were still on the 50s.

I think once group 9 is finished they might take a different slant on the under 50s? Prioritise those working out the home maybe? Who knows.

We already know how they will prioritise the under 50s, purely by age. What you do for a living or where you work doesn’t come into it. That was the JCVI recommendation which the SG accepted (alongside UK GOv).

Back to the bottom of the league again, Glasgow ahead of Edinburgh now.

The age profiles of cities are probably one reason why the Edinburgh rate is low. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are all at the bottom and all have median ages of around 36. But then you have Dundee with a similar median age with a 10% higher vaccination rate. So there is probably more to it.

Age has nothing to do with it. If anything Edinburgh should be faster through the older groups given we have a younger population.

It is because the Scottish Government couldn’t take the advice of people who knew better (the British Army Logistics corp).

How can age have nothing to do with it when vaccines are being prioritized by age?

A local authority is given enough vaccines to cover each priority group at a time, not a fixed and equal amount. If only 1% of the population is over 85 in LA1 and 10% is in LA2 then at the outset LA2 will have been given more vaccines and appear further progressed when looking at % of the population as a whole. And that pattern continues.

I’m in West Lothian so same healthboard. We are 4th bottom council area (with highest rate of Covid!)

I’m 51 and patiently waiting, fed up of everyone I know in England asking if I’ve had mine yet! Called the helpline and I’ve not been assigned an appointment yet.
