NHS Dentists

This is my first post here. I am looking to move my family to Scotland. We have started looking at areas we can afford, near good state secondary schools and links to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. For us this looks like East of Glasgow, West/Mid and East Lothian, the upper Borders, Falkirk, Stirling, and maybe Dunfermline/Dalgety Bay. One consideration for us is access to NHS dentists. I appreciate this can easily change but are any of the areas I have mentioned likely to give us a stronger chance of finding a NHS dentist?

We live in Stirling and just swapped from one NHS dentist to another. It's not in Stirling but close enough.

In your situation I’d move near a good high school for your kids. It’s not that hard to find a good NHS dentist in most of Scotland and easy to travel to one.

Children need to travel to school everyday ( Covid excepting ) . Most people travel to the dentist a few times a year, most adults drive there and most children are accompanied to the dentist.

Yes I agree with pp. There might be a little difficulty getting appointments post covid but I've never had any problem getting registered.

I stay in Stirling and have a great dentist no issues getting appointments and I can easily get to work in Glasgow and Edinburgh by jumping on the motorway.
Lots of different areas in Stirling so house prices vary but bridge of Allan and dunblane tend to be a bit more pricy

Also there is a very good high school that my kids will be attending eventually excellent exam results and pastoral care etc

Good access to NHS dentists in West Lothian. Most are mixed practices, all the routine nhs stuff but some things done privately eg. some crowns or types of filling.

Remember you don't have to live that near. It's quite common here to live in one town and dentist in the next.
As PP said, start with schools and work from there.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Based on that info, it is shifting us away from East Lothian and the upper Borders in terms of house prices and schools (although Peebles HS has a good rep) and more towards West Lothian, Larbert and Stirling.
