Dollar Academy entrance interview for P1

Hi there,
We are thinking of sending our DD to Dollar Academy and there’s an assessment in January. Anyone who has been through it? What is expected from my then 4-year old? I’m freaking out a little bit because I’ve just been told by my “darling” mother in law that the private nursery my DD is attending is as good as council nurseries and I might in fact already ruined her future at the grand old age of 2. I’m fuming.

Good luck, Dollar is an excellent choice 🌺

Ignore your MIL. Though she probably is correct because at that age it's all about social development which she'll get at either nursery.

I've heard good things about the secondary; don't know anyone who started at primary school level.

Dollar Prep is very good OP 🌺

Thank you ladies 😊 just realised, I rumbled a bit last night because still harassing her son about it. What I meant was that she thinks we should send our daughter to council nursery if we want DD be able to pass the entrance interview. According to her council nurseries are better because they are attached to a school. I don’t see the logic tbh. She’s just meddling and used to have all the men in her family under her thumb. So now she thinks she makes decisions for our daughter too.

Ignore MIL. We went through this process relatively recently - the assessment itself was slightly more intense than I was expecting - really dug down in to the child’s understanding of letters, numbers, whether they could write their name, understanding of instructions, drawing shapes etc, but it was made very clear that there was no expectation one way or another, and they were absolutely lovely to her - she actually really enjoyed it. They have been brilliant at adapting to COVID too. And FWIW DD went to a non-council nursery and is doing just fine thank you very much!

I thought all nurseries have to follow the early years curriculum. How well they do it probably depends on the quality of the nursery, but I wouldn't think that you could say council ones are necessarily better.

I can't add anything about P1 interview, but my youngest left Dollar last summer. If you choose to send your DC, I am absolutely sure you won't regret it.

Both my DC attend, very different personalities and both thrived.
