Did anyone watch tonight? I don't know much about the case originally as I was a teenager when it happened but I do remember how horrific it was and parents etc talking about it.

Was he on trial by media? The doc tonight certainly seems to be leaning that way. I think it's so coincidental it's been shown tonight when the whole Scottish institution is being questioned? I hope for Jodis family it is resolved one way or another

Poor Jodie, my heart breaks when I think about her.

I watched the BBC Documentary the forensic guy from the investigation seems to think there would have been dna on LM if he had done it.

I think, for me, the changes to the original statements given by her sister and the sister's BF along with the lack of dna evidence leaves reasonable doubt in my mind.

What’s your thoughts @BlueThistles ?

What’s your thoughts *@BlueThistles* ?

I believe Luke is Guilty

RubyWooRed · 01/03/2021 22:44

So do I

I have posted this on the other thread, but I think that channel5 should be held legally accountable for this documentary.

A young girl was murdered in horrific circumstances, a teen was charged and then convicted of her murder with appeals being unsuccessful not once, but twice, and now a couple of amateurs looking like they could star in one of those spoof detective series wade in and whip up a massive amount of support for the murderer on television and social media and turn the murderer into the victim? How dare they! Angry

Is this what society has become? A young girl’s life is worthless while the murderer is accorded some kind of sympathy? I note they weren’t looking to see who did murder her, just to prove that he didn’t.

I have read that the family are taking legal action against the makers of this documentary and I hope they succeed.

Yes , the whole documentary was strange and left more unanswered than answered.
More holes than Swiss cheese.

I still can’t believe people watched this and started a petition on Change org online for a retrial or to protest his innocence! Based on this shoddy documentary Hmm

OMG!! Did they really???

RubyWooRed · 02/03/2021 09:35

Yes

I’ve seen a few people share it on social media since the program.

RubyWooRed · 02/03/2021 09:40
Hmm
Luke Mitchell documentary
ilovebrie8 · 02/03/2021 09:54

I agree I believe he is guilty, the programme was appalling really amateurish those 2 presenting and not balanced. It wasn’t what I expected at all it was dreadful actually. Mother seems an odd ball...not buying it. Plus the fact he had the best QC and still found guilty.

GreenlandTheMovie · 02/03/2021 10:05

The problem is that someone like Luke Mitchell is being projected by sone as some sort of anti-hero, a modern day Rob Roy who was wronged "by the State".

Giving all of those disaffected, problematic individuals in that programme a platform to air their oddities and grievances is making their dreams come through. I was really shocked at the poor levels of discourse and basic competence of those given air tome in the programme. It truly was crazy stuff. But some peoole will be taken in by it, because they appeared on TV, rather than the rather sober, sombre, sticking-to-the-rules justice system.

DinosaurDiana · 02/03/2021 10:18

Having watched both episodes I can’t say beyond reasonable doubt that he is guilty.
His mother does him no favours.
Did condom man have an alibi ?
Why did it take so long for the moped boys to come forward, and why had one of them lobbed his hair off ?
What about the guy that is now dead who had scratches on his face next day and was known to carry a knife ?
The programme was heavily weighted towards you thinking he is not guilty. I’d like to see a programme that answers so many unanswered questions.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 10:28

Listen to the podcast referred to above. It answers most of what you have posted @DinosaurDiana and is a more balanced view.

RubyWooRed · 02/03/2021 23:19

I just think - if he was truly innocent, why take so long to try to prove it ...

His voice on the recorded jail tapes says so much ...
Blank , emotionless , robotic
Never one mention of his victim

blowinahoolie · 05/03/2021 13:39

Just watched both episodes last night.... really left more questions than answers. Thought provoking all the same.

WeIcomeToGilead · 05/03/2021 14:08

The fact that his brother didn’t take part in the documentary and had also clearly not backed up his alibi (insisting he was home alone) said a lot to me

The dna from the condom apparently belonged to her brother which is a huge coincidence

I really don’t know

RubyWooRed · 05/03/2021 15:32

Really @WeIcomeToGilead ? That seems really incriminating and strange ,I wonder how they explained that.

Yes I assumed re: Luke’s older brother that he’s been likely disowned or disassociated with by the mother and Luke

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/03/2021 15:39

The dna from the condom apparently belonged to her brother which is a huge coincidence

This is incorrect.

The reason the condom was not considered relevant to the investigation is that it was found more than 50 yards away from the crime scene, the DNA was matched to a person who could be completely eliminated as a suspect. Jodi was not sexually assaulted, and Jodi's own DNA was not present on the condom

It's a total red herring.

I wish people shouting about the absence of Luke Mitchell's DNA on Jodi would actually go and educate themselves. Both the prosecution and defence came to an agreement that DNA evidence would not be considered at the trial, purely because with Luke and Jodi having been in an intimate relationship, any attempt to argue that it either proved or disproved anything would no doubt have just resulted in a pointless, never-ending circle of claim and counter-claim. THIS DOES NOT MEAN LUKE MITCHELL'S DNA WAS NOT FOUND ON JODI'S BODY.

This thread has got me interested in watching the documentary.... I listened to a podcast about it a few years ago and I remember finishing it and thinking there was a lot of unanswered questions.... poor Jodi and her family. My overall take was they convicted the right person, his mum is covering for him still and that the police did make a mess of the case- for many and various reasons.
