How many KW kids will be in your school?

Seeing a number of threads where school KW attendances are high - presumably these are in England which are in school this week and so they know. Up to 70% in some schools? It seems English provision is for one KW only to qualify, and doesn't need to be working away from hone.

Our council have a strict criteria of both parents to be KW and both working away from home.

Last time I think it was tiny numbers who accessed KW places, I can't imagine many fit the criteria where we are now, it seems even stricter.

I have no idea what the numbers will be. I'm not sure how all the posters on here know this information. However, the county where I live has the NHS as it's biggest employer which could make decent numbers.

Last time though, in the local town, the 3 primary schools took turns being the childcare hub,, they did a week each on rota.

Missannelliot · 06/01/2021 09:16

I’m not sure about numbers. Our primary school is small but lots of parents are NHS staff although not many of the kids are classed as vulnerable so it’s hard to tell. Councils in Scotland seem to be more strict about who can get a place. I think the rule that if you are working from home your kids don’t get a place is ridiculous. I know a mental health nurse, a health visitor and a GP who were all expected to carry on doing patient consultations while looking after young children!! Impossible. I certainly wouldn’t want my HCP so distracted during my consultation. Thankfully the Health board around here have provided letters for HCP in that situation saying they need a KW space for their kids in order for them to work effectively. Completely different if your kids are teenagers and can work independently but for young kids it’s crazy that’s what the councils were expecting!!

LemonBreeland · 06/01/2021 09:30

I've just checked the wording from our LA. It says that children of key workers up to S2 where there is no other childcare available and invited children.

Ruled · 06/01/2021 10:24

And it's another discrepancy over what's offered in other counties in the UK.

I can't figure out if it's all entirely political - rates in England are far higher yet some schools will be two thirds capacity. Is the school closure in England just a sup, or are we going too hard?

It’s almost always stricter here than England. I don’t mind a harder lockdown if it’s for a shorter time to get things under control. But I’m worried that after 4 weeks they start talking about complete suppression again and the kids aren’t back until after Easter!!

Selfishly, I’m hoping that stricter rules and less kids in school mean that teachers have more time to focus on remote learning for all the kids.

Kerzel · 06/01/2021 16:23

We have 3 today from a roll of 400+

emmathedilemma · 06/01/2021 16:53

I walked my past local primary earlier and there was no more than 10 or 12 children playing out. I’d say they were all different ages so possibly the only ones in? Amusingly all 3 lollipop crossing people were on duty as normal though!

peoniesandfreesias · 06/01/2021 17:01

We have roughly a 7th of our school roll in from next week. Less than 20 in this week.

Lockdownshmockdown · 06/01/2021 17:52

I work in a school. Very limited numbers in. Prioritising children who would be at risk if they school weren’t keeping an eye on them for a month +

Many children were considered and then rejected as we know they will be safe at home.

RaraRachael · 06/01/2021 17:55

We have around 10% but our HT has said that they are only eligible if no one else to care for them and on days they are actually working. We have a lot of offshore workers so if the wife is a KW but the husband is at home, then they wouldn't be eligible for that time.

cicatrix1 · 06/01/2021 18:37

l am in Edinburgh (classroom assistant) we have 24 children in primary school.

Crappyfridays7 · 06/01/2021 18:49

Our schools don’t go back until tomorrow here. No idea who is going to be back. I’m a single parent key worker ours are set into categories then allocated and also kids on vulnerable list and staged intervention 3. Mine could go as I am cat 1 but I haven’t put them in as we don’t need childcare. So there is never a day myself or their dad can’t have them if that makes sense. Youngest has additional needs that will be a challenge but I’d rather he was at home tbh if he can be.

Groovee · 06/01/2021 20:30

We have 25 children who meet the criteria. From nursery to P7.

mondaywine · 06/01/2021 21:14

Not going to out myself with the exact number but between 20-25%.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/01/2021 21:27

We have about 50 or so eligible plus another 50 vulnerable.

6 turned up today.

60 staff. All in the building all day.

30not13 · 06/01/2021 21:29

North east small primary of around 200 or so, there appeared to be about 25 children in today but of course that will change due to KW shifts over the course of the week

GrungeBetty · 06/01/2021 23:37

15 kids out of 1200 ish.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 06/01/2021 23:43

One out of a school roll of around 230!

A little over 60% and rising. South London.
COVID central.

Mcmole · 06/01/2021 23:56

In my daughter's year it looks like at least 25% (p2). In the school in general I think it's about 17% (from p1 to s6). These kids are getting taught in school unlike last time when they too just joined the online classes. Makes me feel even more stressed about dd missing out as we can't just stop work to supervise/ motivate/ assist. I worry she'll fall behind the kids staying in school. She was also really upset after today's lesson when she saw other children in the classroom.

All staff in is ridiculous and not following the SG message if stay at home unless necessary. There should absolutely not be as many staff as that in the building. It should only be the staff needed to supervise the kw and vulnerable children. Please say you are not being asked to go in today?
ABigFatCrow · 09/01/2021 13:01

We have 35 children from a normal roll of about 550.

museumum · 10/01/2021 11:25

I’m just a parent so don’t know the whole picture but I don’t know anyone going in to our primary school.
Edinburgh rules mean you need to have two keyworker parents and have exhausted all options for family/informal arrangements. I know quite a few informal arrangements in place in our class/neighbourhood. Not sure if this is safer or not. We are using a GP to take our children out fir a walk each day otherwise they wouldn’t see daylight. I guess with our current infection rates it’s probably ok but if we got up to London numbers we’d stop.

EachDubh · 16/01/2021 10:30

2 kw parents, vulnerable and asn and have around 1/5 of 550 in daily
