What do you think of these places?

Abernethy, Newburgh, Kinross, Milnathort, Scone, St Madoes, Errol, Inchture, Longforgan.

Which would be your most and least favourite, and why?

@pobparker Thanks, all good to know.

I think lots of places have problems with teenage vandalism these days. I know Invergowrie has been particularly bad for it recently though. Didn't know about Inchture.

I really like Perthshire, also parts of Fife. Have been wondering about Cupar, it seems nice and very commutable.

Fife is very rural. Not much to do there. Everyone knows everyone else in most of the small towns and villages. Newcomers often frowned upon. A previous poster has summed it up well.👌

Teuchter territory. Miles from anywhere especially if you have teenagers who don't drive yet.

Cupar doesn’t feel very rural really as you are so close to the amenities of St Andrews and Dundee....plenty of “incomers” nowadays too. Train station handy too.

DrMaryMalone · 13/12/2020 23:29

I live near Cupar and work there. Train station is handy but it’s got a lot of empty come and go shops so not great for shopping but close enough to Dundee.

Newburgh doesn’t have a great reputation...

What about some of the Howe villages...Strathmiglo, Falkland, Freuchie?

DrMaryMalone · 13/12/2020 23:30

Ladybank too, which also has a train station.

blowinahoolie · 14/12/2020 12:53

True, it's all down to personal taste. If you want very remote, these are villages ideal for a family.

ChochoCrazyCat · 14/12/2020 13:00

@DrMaryMalone Newburgh didn't look too rough, how come it has a bad reputation?

We would be commuting to a city for work and most of our friends are dotted around Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee. For shopping and entertainment we'd be going to those places too, and Glasgow sometimes, which would be just over an hour away.
So we won't be spending that much time in the village (whichever one we go for), it would just be a base. DD would go to the local primary and wouldn't be a newcomer as she'll have grown up there from babyhood.

Its maybe better now but it certainly used to have a bit of a rep for anti social behaviour and a higher rate of deprivation than most of North Fife which was reflected in lower house prices.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 14/12/2020 20:03

@DrMaryMalone my DS still lives in Newburgh with his dad & stepmum - it's not any better. They're actually moving in the new year because they don't want DS spending his teenage years there.

ChochoCrazyCat · 14/12/2020 20:16

Good to know about Newburgh, will keep that in mind...I did notice you could get a lot more house for your money there, so was very tempted.
I checked the SIMD map though and the area I live in now is more deprived than the most deprived area of Newburgh...so it can't be any worse than here!

Some of the "posh" villages like Invergowrie (well, some residents like to think of it as posh) have had horrific incidents of teenage anti social behaviour though...loads of cars smashed up, it was even in the papers.
Sadly it seems more common everywhere now.

Antisocial behaviour is out there in most places now. Seems difficult to escape.
