Is the NHS payment going to all NHS workers or just the COVID frontline?

Because a lot have nhs have had the easiest year ever with ops being cancelled etc, so is it going to be targeted?

Ah yes, anyone who disagrees with anything the SNP do is a "yoon". This policy is poorly thought out and in many cases because of benefit tapers it will be worth less for the lowest paid.

Bonuses get taxed, you don't get to plead a special exemption just because it's being paid from the government. Every grant, furlough payment, self employed income support etc is all taxable. Every other employees bonus is taxable. Why would this posisbly be different? Asking for it to be is political game playing and they know it.

PaddyF0dder · 01/12/2020 19:04

@Kazzyhoward

Umm... yes?

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 19:04

This yoon stuff really annoys me.

It’s neither compulsory nor desirable to agree with everything your government does

Bytheloch · 01/12/2020 19:07

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

'the public', consisting of nobody but the weird wee clique of yoon mumsnetter that turn every single thread on Scotsnet into a moan about the SNP.
And ditto the SNP faithful and senior figures in the party turn everything into a moan about WM. I see Kate ‘the seconded accountant’ Forbes has even commented on the tax matter and she’s in charge of our finances🤔
ThisShitDontMatter · 01/12/2020 19:18

@Kazzyhoward - they dont actually give a fuck, its all about looking good!

Soz, didn't realise that every thread had to have an equal amount of pro and anti SNP people.

No-one is stopping you posting anywhere or starting your threads.

Or are you just annoyed that not everyone thinks that 100% of everything the SNP do is brilliant? I meant they've been in power for what 13 years and it's mostly been an unmitigated disaster.

That doesn't mean that that everyone who doesn't support the SNP think Westminster is great and I'm sure some folk even might be in support of independence and still think the SNP are shite.

makes a change from Sturgettes going round every social platform and cutting and pasting lies and shite everywhere.

Everytime I see that advert for the church saying "try praying" all that goes through my head is "try thinking" , and I don't mean about religion per se. People need to wake up and actually look into stuff and sort the wheat from the chaff and if at the end they still want to support something then great, at least you know what you are supporting.

Happygogoat · 01/12/2020 19:24

@PaddyF0dder

It’s all NHS, as many above have said.

Simply because you’re not directly fighting covid does NOT mean your job hasn’t been impacted by the pandemic.

I work in CAMHS. It’s been a really rough year for the mental health of young people. We’ve been inundated, and have had to find ways to work through the pandemic. It’s been a really, really tough year.

I think we’re due a bonus.

Yes you are.

But are ALL nhs workers in all services? Dentists being an example.

PaddyF0dder · 01/12/2020 19:34

@Happygogoat

I don’t feel able to comment on dentists.

The NHS is a complex, interconnected system. You can’t really separate out “affected by covid” vs “not affected by it”. It’s changed everything and made everything harder. And the interconnectedness means that a failure in one random service has weird effects on the other.

BigFiveMama · 01/12/2020 19:35

Many dentists and dental nurses have been staffing covid testing centers over the past few months. Would you rather they didn't? Others are working in several layers of PPE for every aerosol procedure and scrubbing everything including the celling of the surgery after one.
Dental staff are a small percentage of NHS workers anyway. How about all the admin staff ? Will they all receive the bonus as well?

Outsidemum1 · 01/12/2020 19:37

The SNP will reward care workers with £500.

The Tories, despite their pretence, said 'thanks'
with the opportunity to buy a badge saying 'CARE' on it.

Outsidemum1 · 01/12/2020 19:41

And WaxOn the amount of pro union posts on mumsnet which display a quite staggering level of ignorance are not in short supply! Good for a chuckle...

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 19:42

@Outsidemum1 they won’t though as it affects tax and benefits.

I despise the Tories and just because I dislike a particular policy doesn’t mean I’m a Tory lover

Carrottop73 · 01/12/2020 19:43

Terrible policy.

There are so many very well paid NHS staff being given a bonus paid for by struggling business owners/ hospitality staff/ shop workers.

I would rather see the money used for greater benefits or more generous tax allowance for our lowest earners.
Shops workers or Frontline medical staff, everyone has worked hard in difficult times.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 19:44

But it is peculiar how a thread on a particular policy has been turned into a yoon/independence one.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/12/2020 19:47

And?

I didn't ask any particular group to try thinking

People just get hacked off with the same old gobshite being trundled out and another thing I've noticed is the distinct lack of any sense of humour about it.

I think most people who vote for other parties are well aware that there is a lot of shite and are quite happy to laugh and joke about it (even the fucking awful bits), doesn't seem to be allowed if you are SNP.

Invisimamma · 01/12/2020 19:49

Many dental staff have been working in covid testing centres, my MIL is a community nurse and has been working alongside dental staff administering covid tests. Other dental staff have been redeployed to NHS 24 phonelines when they were overwhelmed with calls.

My friend who usually works in health promotion has been training track and trace staff.

You really can't start seperating out who's had an easy time of it, it doesn't work like that.

My partner also works for NHS and although not front line he's had a really tough year of it and their service has been badly affected by increased workload due to covid. This bonus will be really welcomed. He works crap shifts for fairly low pay, a nice wee cash injection.

For those saying 'what about supermarket workers' etc, that's really up to their employers.

Outsidemum1 · 01/12/2020 19:50

They won't what? Pay the £500? If you don't believe they'll do it why are you complaining so much about it..?

I wasn't implying you support the Tories, I'd hope most sensible folk would see the 'buy a badge ' initiative as beyond insulting.

PaddyF0dder · 01/12/2020 19:52

@WouldBeGood

It’s not that strange.

Happens all the time. Sectarianism runs deep in Scotland. You either vote SNP or Rangers Grin

jessi60 · 01/12/2020 20:04

I’m not in Scotland but I’m a nurse (nhs) England. I haven’t been on the frontline of covid but my job has been affected and we’ve had a tough year doing this job. I would love to be getting this £500 and think it’s deserved by majority.
£500 isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things, when we have been lacking pay rises for such a long period of time. We have to pay to study now and work full time hours for no money. When I first started a few years back my hourly rate wasn’t that much above minimum wage which I don’t think it’s fair when you look at the time it takes to qualify and the actual job itself.
A lot of supermarkets gave workers bonuses and people were fine with this.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/12/2020 20:05

For those saying 'what about supermarket workers' etc, that's really up to their employers.

My understanding was this is going to private sector care workers too. So not just government employees.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 01/12/2020 20:06

As a NHS nurse who has worked through the whole pandemic, ITU, the wards etc I am done. I love my job, no I don't want a £500 bonus. But some of us have been so badly treated. I really don't think I can carry on. The NHS is understaffed as staff are off sick and stressed and working in areas they are not qualified for. I don't sleep at night and feel sick for fear of making a mistake. I have seen things that will stay with me forever. This is not what I trained for. The problem is my seniors do not care we are just numbers. I have been shouted at and physically harmed. Not sure what to do as I know I am lucky to have a job but not sure my mental health can take it. It's not all about the money.

WouldBeGood · 01/12/2020 20:08

True @PaddyF0dder 😂

It’s disappointing though.

Backbee · 01/12/2020 20:10

@Rupertpenrysmistress 111 is recruiting for remote clinical staff, £16 an hour. Not that I am saying leave of course, but there are options out there away from the shit storm you've been thrown into.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/12/2020 20:12

@Rupertpenrysmistress that sounds utterly shit. The underinvestment in the NHS has been going on for years. This is just a tokenistic colourful sticking plaster. Maybe the money would have been better spent investing in dedicated mental health support specifically for staff like you? Seems that would be far more value to you in the long term

Mrsjayy · 01/12/2020 20:14

That is appalling I'm sorry you're feeling so low @Rupertpenrysmistress you need support a decent workplace not a 500 bung or a clap Flowers
