Dentist

My dentist is still only doing emergency appointments. Everyone else I know has been for a check up at their dentists. I recently changed my DD to another dentist so she could get a check up (she has braces and I was a bit concerned as orthodontist hadn't seen her for months either). My ds is 11 and has possible autism (diagnosis delayed due to covid) so I don't particularly want to change his dentist as he would likely have an issue with this.
I'm quite confused about this as I know these other dentists are doing checkups. Can you tell me if you and your DC have been able to visit for routine appointments if you are on Scotland (particularly Glasgow)? I think it's awful that children's check ups are not being done at my current dentist and want to find out if this is normal.

Sorry Mmm, July was his first appointment with orthodontist since lockdown.

Yes some are seeing check ups. We are seeing emergencies first, then patients who have outstanding treatment planned from before lockdown.

We are also a designated emergency practice so can get a fair fee through from 111 daily so have kept slots open.

It depends on how much of a backlog they've had, and how reduced their workforce might be .

We have one dentist shielding so we are all sharing their patients too.

Just been to the dentist. The treatment was fine and the dentist jovial as usual. Plus I didn't have to wait, so a win all round.
It was like entering an ebola infested zone, though... prior to beginning the treatment the dentist changed three pairs of gloves (that I noticed), then he had to get his ppe full gown, visor and super duper all singing and all dancing mask. Now the room I was in has to be left empty for 30 mins, so he has to use a different treatment room for the next patient.
This is why they are not carrying out check-ups: there is literally no time as only half the dentists can be in the practice at any one time, plus all the PPE changes, etc. mean that it is not feasible to get many people in. In other words, as I put it, they cannot operate in the usual "production line" style.
But at least my crown is getting sorted.

We can still not get check ups or anything other than an emergency extraction on the NHS, anything we want if go private though.

Just had a text from them about their black Friday deal on tooth whitening kits with slots available on 12th November.. Maybe that's meant to be December. Either way totally fucked off.
