How do do my Christmas shopping if all the shops are shut?

I know somethings I can get online but others I prefer to see in the shop. Hopefully things will open on Dec 11th but how shops will be mobbed. I've only just got the money for shopping sorted and now this!

There are lots of shops still open - have you seen the amount you can buy from supermarkets, for example? Toys, clothes, books. There's a huge tick.

There are also lots of online shops that deliver free over a certain amount, Amazon and eBay for free delivery.

But ultimately, when there's a pandemic that's bad enough to warrant a national lockdown, Christmas shopping kind of isn't the most important thing - not when you can a) buy from SOME shops, b) buy online free delivery in lots of places or c) finish off after lockdown is lifted.

It really shouldn't be your priority right now.

I'm not sure what you need to 'see'? You can order 99% of things online. Hate the look when they're here? Return them

Fivefootoffun · 17/11/2020 21:37

OP - if your near a home bargains or B&M they will remain open (or at least they did during last lock down) and have a huge selection of reasonably priced toys.

Fleetwoodmacs · 17/11/2020 21:50

I've just got some good toys between Lidl and Aldi, and I'm ordering the last few bits of Amazon soon. Even with delivery charges it's usually cheaper than going to the shops tbh.

This is really a non issue. I’m moving to tier 4 also - as are over 2 million people. It’s a pandemic, start adjusting your expectations and just enjoy the day with your family.
And the previous poster was not rude, it just wasn’t what you wanted to hear.

Cheesypea · 17/11/2020 21:58

.I'm buying one present a week when I go food shopping. If in doubt sprits, perfume or cash.

MiddlesexGirl · 17/11/2020 21:59

Online all the way. Why would anyone go to the shops this year - except to support the small independent retailers?

dementedma · 17/11/2020 22:11

Well I'm one of the "smug" ones who is all done but I've been doing it a bit at a time for the last couple of months to spread the cost. Many independents do vouchers and plenty of supermarket gifts are ok. I think everyones expectations will be lower this year so dont worry

That's good waxon the feedback really matters to people and gets looked at closely. I was a bit miffed to get a delivery at 9 the other week as go to bed early but checked myself as I thought about the volumes being handled.

I love my Hermes lady and obviously for Amazon or other places you get lots of random folk but I've been really impressed. I never used to bother to feedback unless I was unhappy but that's really unfair. It's a pressured job and a smile and thank you costs nothing. the 2 seconds it takes to give feedback is hopefully helpful.

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 06:06

Funnily enough, the Hermes guy we have had been the same for years too and he was always kind to my dog. I found the quality of my Amazon deliveries went up when I submitted nice feedback.

The supermarket assistants appreciate the surveys too - almost no-one does those either.

Supermarkets. Unless Sturgeon is banning the non essentials like we had in Wales. Places like B&M and the Range have been staying open haven't they and selling toys.

Amazon usually has free delivery. Or it will offer you a free/cheap trial of Prime if you haven't had one for a while. Even the normal monthly rate of £7 isn't too bad to get absolutely everything delivered and then cancel it after the month is up.

I tend to get most of my Christmas shopping online anyway now. I hate going to the shops in December at the best of times. I'm not being a smug smart arse, but the way this year has gone, I've been saving what I can each month and buying what I can when I can for Christmas since the summer.

I've got some lovely things from Etsy so far this year.
