So. I really feel today like things are starting to go tits up.

Our school is hanging by a thread. 10 staff self isolating, 5 staff infected, approx 15 kids infected and about 180 self isolating. Another 110 kids voting with their feet and not attending.

This is not a 'should schools be open' post. Of course they should be open. It's a 'can they stay open' post.

I feel like today was the first time that I actually though 'shit' what's going to happen here?

Is this just my school? Please hit me with stories where it's all running smoothly!

I'm thinking secondary not primary. All our primaries in the cluster seem to be doing okay thankfully!

Our school seems OK consider, we had an email yesterday saying 2 children (one S1 and one S3) had positive results, they are unrelated and close contacts now isolating. These are only the 2nd/3rd students since schools returned after summer. None of ds's teachers have been off, not sure about other staff, or if we would be told.

Ours is a large secondary school, approx 1300 kids.

Lidlfix · 05/11/2020 22:29

Sorry Sonic that sounds really stressful. I did hear on radio Clyde this morning of a NL school that there were calls to close as it was becoming unsustainable due to staff and pupil absences.

I think everyone (in secondary cannot speak for my primary colleagues as we aren't mixing) fears what you are going through. Where I teach hasn't had a case, yet. But we are of an opinion that it's when not if.

Our pupils have been fantastic with the latest mask guidelines - level 3 but Forth Valley. But, they're kids and they forget - lots.

So the freezing rooms, the triple periods , the isolation from colleagues, the tying ourselves in knots providing work for in class and at home pupils simultaneously, the shite weekends because we're terrified of being contact traced and staying away from our own family as we fear we're incubating the virus is the price.

We want the schools to be open .

Contact tracers been to DDs school twice. There was also transmission at house parties that Public Health didn't get involved with as it took place in October break but impacted on significant amount of seniors isolating .

sonicbook · 05/11/2020 22:34

Yes I saw the news!

Also in NL not too far from there. I don't think Lanarkshire is great infection wise at all!

Reassuring that others are doing okay. Hopefully this outbreak will blow over soon.

I'm in NL too. My ds is isolating after contact but thankfully no sign of symptoms and can go back on Monday.
I don't think their school is doing too badly although I dont think parents get the full story all the time

waitforitwaitforit · 05/11/2020 22:51

We had a wee flurry (pupils not staff, thankfully) but things seem to be calming down now. Probably had contact tracing 6/8 times since August. I wonder if some kids are just quietly self-isolating though, and not getting tested.

dementedpixie · 05/11/2020 22:54

We've had 2 notifications this week and 1 last week (the one affecting ds).

user1487194234 · 06/11/2020 06:03

Hopefully the schools can keep open,so important for our young people

RaspberryCoulis · 06/11/2020 08:07

There have been several cases in our secondary school (east dunbartonshire) but everything appears to be running as normal. Very few teachers off. Kids (mostly) doing as they're told if they are asked to self-isolate. And all S4 to S6, from what i'm hearing.

Sturmundcalm · 06/11/2020 09:10

In our area I'm only aware of 2 (different schools) primary teachers who have been off due to confirmed cases and a small number who were then tracked and traced and had to self isolate as a result, and about 3 pupils in primary. Our secondary has had about 4 pupils since August and no teachers... We're a tier 2 area but right on the edge of the central belt.

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2020 15:09

SL and all seems good in DCs secondary, over 1,000 pupils.

Touch wood!

We also got a school report today. It was just a form, but nice to hear how they’re doing (s1) and I was really impressed the teachers had done them at all with all this going on!

Aurea · 06/11/2020 15:18

No cases that I've heard of yet in our secondary school (approx 850 kids). Some kids being tested but all negative so far. Near normal attendance for staff and pupils.

sonicbook · 06/11/2020 15:31

All r ally encouraging! I'm glad. Hopefully we ca return to some semblance of normality soon.

My school doing well enough so far, but I just feel I'm waiting for it to happen. Have never been so tense at this time of year before.
Even though it's Friday it's hard to relax.

Cismyfatarse · 06/11/2020 17:12

We have had the odd teacher out for a test or test in the family but none off for more than a couple of days waiting for results. One or two pupils because of positive out of school contacts. But, nothing (yet) though school and we are in an area in level 3 but at the bottom end of the level 3 in terms of case numbers.

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2020 17:34

We have had a couple of notifications of positive tests since they went back but nothing to cause a closure of the school or a year or a class.

Wbeezer · 06/11/2020 19:47

Nothing untoward at DS3s school in P&K, although the have been fire alarms set off two days in a row and food fights at lunch so some of the pupils are acting out their frustrations.

Awrite · 06/11/2020 21:08

We've had one staff member test positive. However, they were already self isolating due to spouse having tested positive so have not infected anyone (hopefully).

No pupils so far.

A few family members of pupils. So far, the self isolating seems to have stopped the spread.

Nervy times. Teachers are stressed, pupils are anxious and we are far too far from our next holiday.

Scotslassie1 · 06/11/2020 22:10

Some adults in school tested positive and also pupils ( primary). Hoping it doesn't spread further.

Amortentia · 06/11/2020 22:17

Our school has managed really well until this week. My ds has been attending but a huge chunk of his year and teachers have either tested positive or are self isolating. Classes are struggling for numbers and I wonder if we'll reach a tipping point were it's better to have everyone working online than the current disruption. But, I think the Scot gov are so welded to keeping schools open, which I did agree with. Now, I think they should be making plans for senior pupils to work from home.

waitforitwaitforit · 06/11/2020 22:50

But, we've had several cases in my school but only 2 pupils isolating out of 60 in my two senior classes in the 3 months the schools have reopened. I genuinely don't see a need to close schools to seniors at the moment.

RaspberryCoulis · 06/11/2020 22:59

Before the October holidays i was getting at least two emails a week from school "we are carrying out contact tracing in your child's year group blah blah" - haven't had one in a fortnight.

The girl in DD's S4 drama class who definitely, absolutely had it, and which meant DD was planning her Netflix viewing for the next 2 weeks, tested negative even though her dad tested positive last week. (DD gutted.)

I know it's anecdotal, but things are improving.

Scbchl · 06/11/2020 23:04

My youngest twos primary school hasnt had one case from staff or pupils since opening. About 700 in the school. My eldest, in fifth year has just came out of isolation. They have had a couple of cases with pupils (one her friend she sists beside hence the isolating) but neither have led to anyone else getting it. Pretty big secondary.

To be honest all the schools in my area are doing okay.

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2020 23:07

This is quite cheering

Torvean32 · 07/11/2020 15:19

Im in the NE, schools have been doing well here.

I think with the community spread in Lanarkshire that it was bound to hit schools eventually. Hopefully after all have finished isolation things can re-start.

audweb · 07/11/2020 15:21

My daughters school, over 400 pupils, I’ve not heard of anything at all. I think some kids have had to self isolate because their parents have come into contact at work with people, but no classes have been asked too. So far, it’s been fine.
