Levels reviews

Does anyone know how often which level council areas are in will be reviewed?

Weekly for most and daily for Lanarkshire i think

36weekswithno2 · 29/10/2020 22:57

Ahh as often as that. Ok, I thought it might be a 3 weekly thing.

Well, it's meant to be weekly for most but a bit of a switcheroo on when they announce and when it comes into effect means the levels they announced yesterday will be in place for 2 weeks. Total farce if you are living in an area that was included in the initial central belt 16 day restrictions that shouldn't have been in the first place, then those were extended, now we have Tier 3 when all indicators point to a 2. So in the end 16 days has spread into 5 weeks and no mention in the announcement or any hope given that the tier will drop then either.

I'm in East Dunbartonshire, right at the border with Glasgow. The supermarket, hairdresser and basically everything else I use is in Glasgow.
We've had no household visiting since September Sad it really is getting hard now.

It is the lack of hope or any end in sight that I'm finding difficult. I'm due my second baby in a couple of weeks, family can't even pop in to help. There's nowhere to take my DS (or the baby when it's born) and dh is working from home and keeps getting disturbed.

Seeing the levels in print made it feel worse tbh as basically we're pretty much living like this until there's a vaccine.

Even a little toddler group or bookbug or softplay would make such a big difference.

It's bloody awful isn't it.

36weekswithno2 · 30/10/2020 10:09

Maybe I'm hormonal but I really could just cry today. No choice but to try and get on with it Sad

Honestly OP, I would just do whatever you can that seems sensible enough. Covid virus doesn't recognise LA borders any more than it does Health Board borders and the list of exceptions could include virtually anything. You are allowed to go and shop and I'd say hairdressers is mental health exemption too. Both areas are tier 3 anyway.

angelopal · 30/10/2020 10:20

Is there specific criteria for each level that they used when deciding what level we are in?

36weekswithno2 · 30/10/2020 10:24

@angelopal I think it's number of cases per 100,000 but I'm not sure what the cut offs are.
I'm just scunnered with it all now, I worked from home all through lockdown, pregnant with a 3yo and no childcare. The summer was an improvement, my sickness had stopped, nursery opened and you could see family. The winter ahead just looks so tough now.

Might be info linked on this page

There are, as posted above, but in the end they've just done whatever they like.

LizzieMacQueen · 30/10/2020 12:07

i have just heard on BBC Scotland that pupils in tier 3 are required to wear face masks in class. That's seniors S4,5 and 6.

I am not sure my DS will be returning to school 😟

AchieveBelieve · 30/10/2020 12:21

Yes. That’s going to go down well with my S5 child! My S2 can remain mask less in class - she’ll be happy about that.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/10/2020 12:24

Not good Sad

I thought it wasn't transmitted in schools? Only after 6pm with a pint when you've crossed into another LA? Hmm

OOAOML · 30/10/2020 12:27

My son is S3 but has been wearing a mask in school since August (takes in multiple ones). I worry more about how planning for the really cold weather is going - the kids are already really cold thanks to the open windows and it will be awful by January/February. Us For Them will lose their shit over the masks but I hold them responsible for schools at full capacity with crowded corridors and shivering children (although I imagine worse for teachers).

Scotslassie1 · 30/10/2020 13:14

Thank you for showing some consideration for teachers. We have older PSAs who share taxis with autistic children on a daily basis. They hold their hands as the children have sensory issues and need this touch to feel safe when coming to school. This is done twice a day, five days a week and is done for all LCR pupils. Just one example where educational setting staff put themselves at risk for the sake of children. I utterly despair when seeing the hate from us over them over the recommendations that are in place, in order to stop educational staff becoming seriously ill.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/10/2020 13:20

Well that was a pile of whataboutery...

Not sure where anyone on this thread has said anything against teachers? having concern for your child sitting in a class all day with a mask on is very different from not having respect for teachers.

Lidlfix · 30/10/2020 17:19

I read that as a sincere thanks as OOAOML had expressed concern for pupils and teachers in cold crowded conditions. And (quite accurately) predicted that Usforthem would be losing their shit. Wine and crisps open ready to screenshot the bile to post on Twitter later , simple pleasures for me. Words of support that were gratefully received . But I am all about peace and love my only exception being a Facebook group who threaten violence and give suggestions on how to ruin the careers of employees in my sector.

ssd · 30/10/2020 18:05

What is this usforthem, I've seen them talked about on here before?

OOAOML · 30/10/2020 18:07

Thanks @Lidlfix I do rant about the school on occasion but I am genuinely really impressed with the teachers and how they are coping : at least one previously shielding, several (that we know of) in thermals already (my kids have just started wearing fingerless gloves), having to put up with break and lunch being moved about to keep juniors and seniors separate, which I'm guessing is really impacting teacher break times....and still going the extra mile.

Scotslassie1 · 30/10/2020 20:12

Thanks Lidlfix, yes I was thanking OOAOM and referring to the bile spewed on UFFT.

I know it's hard for everyone just now but it's nice to see some appreciation and understanding for us teachers.

randomsabreuse · 30/10/2020 20:31

I think East Dunbartonshire is so closely entwined with Glasgow/North Lanarkshire that trying to avoid crossing the borders is impossible. I think the only reason people in Bishopbriggs know where the border is would be because of school catchments and therefore house prices!

My nearest "big" supermarkets are in either Glasgow or North Lanarkshire, same goes for Aldi, and I'd probably drive through Stirlingshire at Balmore to get to an Aldi in East Dunbartonshire...

I also doubt that people in Strathblane or the Stirling side of the border just outside Bearsden would go anywhere other than Bearsden for shopping.
