Settle an argument please!

My husband pronounces this the way it's spelled. I've always pronounced it more like juking/djuking for apples.

He thinks I'm making up my own pronunciation can anyone back me up?! Grin

Dook as in book here too. I grew up in highland Perthshire with parents from Stirling and Arran/Kilmarnock

Dook is pronounced as it's written. Juke is something you do when you try and queue jump...

LazyLucille · 28/10/2020 19:45

Duck apple here.

Those saying dook as in book. Is book pronounced buck or bewk or is that just a scouse thing?

Justmuddlingalong · 28/10/2020 19:58

Dook as in book as in cook here.

Um... neither. (at least here in my part of Scotland)

BadPoet · 28/10/2020 20:43

Dook here. Do you say loony juke too?

peoniesandfreesias · 28/10/2020 20:56

Yup dook in Fife. Never heard it pronounced differently and have lived all over Scotland as far north as Moray too.

CraftyGin · 28/10/2020 20:57

Dooking - East Lothian

JaJaDingDong · 28/10/2020 21:08

We say ducking. Like the bird.

Waterdropsdown · 28/10/2020 21:21

This thread is hilarious! Like actually!
And I always said “ducking” never heard “dooking”, grew up in North East

Chickenandrice · 29/10/2020 15:38

I think we say dookin but we do say “djuking aboot” for ducking about
