chances of a routine blood test?

I take thyroid medication and have done for a couple of years. Some of my symptoms are suggesting that my dose isn't quite right at the moment. I would need a blood test to confirm this.

Are GPs doing this sort of thing? My GP surgery is locked up, big capital letters all over the website telling you to stay away, phone triage. Unfortinately there's no way of me getting a blood test without a phlebotomist doing it for me and I don't think they're going to up the dose without a test.

My GP surgery are seeing people for routine appointments, the default offering is a telephone /video call and then if needed a face to face appointment. One of my DS has had a face to face and so has my DM so would hope you should be able to get a routine blood test. Hope you feel better soon

Yes that are doing blood tests. Just phone and ask / make an appointment.

I had blood tests this week phone for an appointment it might be over the phone at first but there was no issues. Getting it done.

Great - I will just have to run the gauntlet of the receptionists giving you even more of the third degree than usual though!

I have to get mine redone too....I keep meaning to phone cos helpfully their online appointments system is rubbish and for some reason they have the phlebotomist listed but they don't seem to have it set up to book appointments for him. Eejits.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/10/2020 09:55

Ours doesn't have an online appointment system. Or an email address. The only way of getting an appointment is going there in person (not allowed because of Covid), or phoning.

They're in the total dark ages.

I think you'll have to speak to a doctor for them to order a blood test. I don't think you can just book one yourself. GPs should be running a fairly normal service now.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/10/2020 09:58

In the past they've just let me book a blood test, will see what they say when i call them on monday. i don't really need to take up a gp's time though.

You are more than likely to get a call back and given an appointment for the phlebotamis or a nurse to take your blood.
