Thought some might be interested in the outcome of the review of Additional Support for Learning in Scotland.

This document lays out the findings, the recommendations and timescales for improvement/change.

Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen this - seems like progress but why are we just now thinking about creating a national measurement framework per section 1.2? (Not directed at you, that struck me as something that should've been in place as soon as ASL existed).

@anon444877

Completely agree with you and your confusion. We shouldn't have to fight to have children and young people with additional support needs included in education. The fact that the GIRFEC framework doesn't apply to those who need it most is outstanding. I really hope this paves the way for improvement.

Yes I made a pest of myself asking about metrics etc a few years ago at the dc's school and glad to finally see some attempts at measurement, good to see what transpires.

@dumplingsandstew, when you say the GIRFEC framework doesn't apply, do you mean it isn't applied when it should be? I haven't read the report yet, I will but your comment vote my attention.

Yes interested to know why you think girfec doesn't apply for some children?

DumplingsAndStew · 24/10/2020 13:38

Because GIRFEC is about Every Child, yet there are lots of excuses and reasons and "buts" when it comes to support for children with additional needs. The fact that there is no current way of measuring attainment for children with additional needs in school shows that they are not part of who they are currently Getting It Right for Sad
