End of self isolation period

needmumsadvice · 10/10/2020 16:21

My DD and university flatmates are all self isolating as one of them has tested positive. The
Test and Protect message, attached, says self isolate until 18/10.
Does this mean they can leave the flat on the 18th, or not until the 19th??

Thanks!

End of self isolation period

I would say the 18th is the last day so they can go out on the 19th

LouScot · 11/10/2020 01:12

She needs to isolate on the 18th and can go out on the 19th. Hope she's coping x

needmumsadvice · 11/10/2020 09:55

Thank you both, that's what I was thinking, but not what they were hoping to hear!
They seem fine, although quite intense being 24/7 with people you've known for less than a month.

I’d say the opposite actually. Isolate until the 18th. As soon as it turns the 18th no longer need to isolate.
They will also know people may confuse it so will bear that in mind and publish first day after isolating rather than last day to avoid early release in error!

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2020 10:15

I agree, until the 18th means you can go out on the 18th.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/10/2020 10:19

Count 14 days from the date they got the message.

Hokeywokey · 11/10/2020 10:21

Track and trace told me I could go out on the 14th day, so I'd say she could go out on the 18th.

Hokeywokey · 11/10/2020 10:23

Also track and trace will ring her several times so she can ask.

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 10:31

Its not always 14 days from the text. Depends when the person had symptoms/they had contact/they got test results.

And its Test and Protect
Track and trace is through the post office!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/10/2020 10:36

I'd agree with Herman & Wax until 18/10/2020 means they can go out on the 18th.

needmumsadvice · 11/10/2020 10:45

Hence the confusion! It is Test and Protect, and not 14 days from the message as they were contacted after their flatmate's positive test. The rest of the flat tested negative.

If they can go out on the 14th day they can count this from the date of flatmate's test

Should it not be 14 days from contact after symptoms began?

Hokeywokey · 11/10/2020 11:46

It's 14 days from when the symptoms began, not from the day of the test.

LouScot · 11/10/2020 12:24

The last day of isolation is the day given in the text, which means all that day she needs to isolate. The dates will have been worked out by Test and Protect and are what should be followed.I know its confusing but honestly, last day of isolation means that all that day you need to isolate.

BrightSunshineDay · 11/10/2020 12:26

My isolation note stated midnight on the last day so I would say 19th.

Needthesunshine · 11/10/2020 14:56

It’s all very confusing. Test and Protect told us that for contacts, the isolation period is 14 days from 2 days before the person developed symptoms/got tested. I’ve no idea how that even makes sense to them and doesn’t actually follow the guidelines. When my DH questioned it the woman told him that she’s not clinical and was just following what she was told.

needmumsadvice · 11/10/2020 16:43

@BrightSunshineDay that wording is much clearer
