Flu vaccination

Does anyone know if those eligible for this year's vaccine (in Scotland) have to wait for a letter informing them? Or do they phone their GP's surgery before? TIA.

Our surgery isn’t sending letters, it’s all down to cost.
We have already done several flu clinics so give them a call and see when they are doing theirs or, if it’s the same in Scotland, our local pharmacies also do flu vaccine for those eligible.

Mrsjayy · 25/09/2020 14:09

I've not heard anything yet we normally get letters start of October .

Mrsjayy · 25/09/2020 14:10

I fact i think I might have got a text last year. Which trust are you ?

MonsterChopz · 25/09/2020 14:12

Our surgery (lanarkshire health board) sent a message out to say the surgery weren't doing it this year and it was being arranged centrally with letters being issued and we weren't to contact the surgery under any circumstances re vaccination. The letters have started being issued as my parents received theirs today although have not been given an appointment date or time as yet.

Bumble84 · 25/09/2020 14:12

I’ve heard all the flu clinics are being centralised this year and the finer details have yet to be decided. Not sure how reliable this information is or how it will work but that’s what my dad was told when he queried it with his Drs surgery.

This provides slightly more clarity

Justmuddlingalong · 25/09/2020 14:15

We're in Fife. I'm wary of bothering the surgery if we've to wait.

Mrsjayy · 25/09/2020 14:18

I've just googled Forth Valley they have it on their website they are starting next week and we will be informed, have a look on yours see what it says.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/09/2020 14:23

Thanks all. Just checked the NHS Fife website. We've to wait to be contacted, then phone to make an appointment at one of the community vaccination hubs. Understandably there's no drop in clinics this year. It's just a case of waiting then.

Mrsjayy · 25/09/2020 14:26

Yeah i am sure we will be contacted they are starting in Falkirk so I'm expecting Stirling to be in October there is going to be hubs and appointments.

PurpleFrog · 25/09/2020 18:48

@Justmuddlingalong. I’m in Fife. DP had a letter this week from NHS Fife about his flu jab. It had instructions on who to contact - it is being coordinated centrally this year. He phoned and got cut off, then couldn’t get through again, so texted them. They replied to his text yesterday, saying they will be in contact next week to make an appointment.

InTheVelvetDarkness · 26/09/2020 20:19

Had a letter posted out for youngest DC
Advised to call local surgery
Called local surgery , they told me they hadn’t arranged it yet
Checked their website - they have arranged it and are doing the FLU jabs / sprays over a Two week period.
So now I will need to call back to book in.
I got the feeling I was being fobbed off by the receptionist.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/09/2020 20:41

A friend's mum received her letter last week. She's also in Fife. She's not been able to get through to get an appointment as the number's ringing and then cutting off.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 27/09/2020 10:19

We couldn’t get an appointment for my little one until December. Seems a bit late for this? Hope that they fill any appointments that are cancelled in our area, otherwise they will have really missed the boat!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2020 11:38

@mrsjjay our surgery in Stirlingshire has a note on their website saying they are being done at the rugby club.

Didn't pay that much attention as we don't get them. I just saw the info whilst looking for something else.

Mrsjayy · 27/09/2020 11:44

Oh did it @WaxOnFeckOff hopefully I'll hear soon the parents were also asking me about it they are getting impatient !

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2020 11:55

This is the note:

IMPORTANT - FLU CLINIC ARRANGEMENTS 2020
Flu clinics for adults over 65 years old and those 18- 64 with underlying health conditions are being organised by FV Health Board this year and will be at external venues.

Those who are over 55 may be appointed to these sessions also subject to vaccine availability. Letters will be issued to all patients with appointments along with contact details for the HB administration team should you need to change it.

Clinics for Bridge of Allan patients will be running between 13th and 21st November at Stirling Rugby Club.

Vaccinations for children under 5 years and those who are housebound will be carried out by the Practice and are being organised separately
We regret that the Practice are unable to give details of times or to change appointments for individuals as we will not have these details or access to the systems used.
On behalf of the Health Board we apologise that this has taken some time to be notified to patients due to the complexity and availability of suitable and safe venues for this extensive programme. We appreciate that this year more than ever patients are keen to make their arrangements however it hasn’t been possible to confirm details until this time.

I'm in Glasgow and had a text through a few weeks ago asking me to call the GP to attend one of 2 vaccination clinic dates at the surgery, and just had mines today. It seems so disorganised and I must have been lucky to have got that text message.

dementedpixie · 03/10/2020 16:41

Think our local sports centre is going to be used as a vaccination site

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 13/10/2020 12:43

Booked a private one for later this week at a local pharmacy as GP surgery very hit and miss with their system, even in a normal year.

Greektome · 13/10/2020 20:17

Very impressed with our GP surgery in Tayside. I'm in early 50s and they phoned me and offered the vaccine for the following week on a day and time to suit me. I went in and there were several members of staff doing the jabs and no queue.

Tomorrowisanewday · 14/10/2020 10:49

I got a letter on Saturday, but it's from NHS Scotland, not my local board, was posted out from a centralised office, again not in my area.

I havent phoned yet to try and get an appointment.

prettybird · 14/10/2020 11:11

This is the guidance from GGHB.

https://www.nhsggc.org.uk/your-health/healthy-living/seasonal-flu/

Looks like it's all being done centrally in the GGHB area and that the 55-64 year olds (without underlying conditions) will only be contacted mid to late November.

ladylunchalot · 14/10/2020 11:15

Dh got a text (he was shielding) this morning to say we're all booked in this Thursday evening at our local sports centre (Lanarkshire).
I could get my jag via work (nhs) but might as well get done tomorrow night.

BlueThursday · 17/10/2020 00:57

I’m in GG and my nurse called me last week asking if I wanted one this year (I normally just pay to have it done in Boots but I couldn’t get one anywhere)

I got done my my nurse yesterday and there was also a flu clinic on in the health centre at the same time
