Due to travel to Scotland to stay in a Air b&b and eat at the kitchin.
We will be 2 couples from 2 different households travelling from England in the same car.
Is any of this allowed at the moment with covid rules in Scotland?
I'm just confused by it all as air b& b still to the final payment today.

Car sharing isn't allowed in Scotland Nicola said the other day.

quarentini · 24/09/2020 18:25

But the rest is??

Ashard20 · 24/09/2020 18:29

Households aren't allowed to mix, with the exception of support bubbles. As you can't visit another household inside or in the garden, then I don't think you can share a car.

quarentini · 24/09/2020 18:32

But we can eat out and share accommodation?

disneydreaming · 24/09/2020 18:33

No, you are not allowed to holiday with anyone outside you household.

Or share a car.

I believe you could go for a meal together though.

NameChange9824 · 24/09/2020 18:33

No, you can't share an Airbnb. It counts as a private home for lockdown purposes. My holiday just got cancelled for that reason.

MaHeidsGouping · 24/09/2020 18:34

You can meet in a pub/restaurant/public place as its only 4 of you but I'm not 100% sure if that means you should be 2 metres apart....I've never seen friends sitting apart yet in a restaurant.

NameChange9824 · 24/09/2020 18:34

www.assc.co.uk/self-catering-restrictions-2/ Clarification from Fergus Ewing that only one household permitted in self-catering accommodation from Friday.

quarentini · 24/09/2020 18:42

I've just messaged air b& b.
Thanks for your help everyone

My air b& b host has just said we can still use the property.
Should I be worried now ?

I'd still go on holiday since its booked. The chances of being pulled over for car sharing are probably very very slim.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/09/2020 19:47

You told them you're from two separate households and they said it's fine? I'm afraid they are wrong (probably want to protect the booking) as PP above said. It's been specifically confirmed as a No.

Re car sharing. I have c&p this from Travel Scotland. It's not actually illegal just not advised.

We recognise that there may be occasions when there is no alternative but to travel with people from out with your household. This should be limited as much as possible.
On such occasions, you should:
• keep to small groups of people, up to 6 at any one time
• keep your distance and take care entering and exiting the vehicle
• sit as far apart as possible in the vehicle, avoiding face-to-face
• maintain good ventilation by keeping the car windows open
• wear a face-covering, unless you are exempt
• clean your hands before and after your journey
• if the vehicle is your responsibility, clean the door handles and other areas that people touch.
• If you regularly share transport whether it is a car or minibus or other private vehicle, try and share with the same people each time.

Merryhobnobs · 24/09/2020 19:49

We are not allowed in to anyone else's houses. No mixing of households indoors. Doubt you will get into bother though as not likely to be noticed. But it is against the current rules.

Notthisnotthat · 24/09/2020 19:53

We've just had our break cancelled as we were to be 2 households in a lodge.

quarentini · 24/09/2020 20:27

I'm willing air B&B to cancel now

OP posts:
iskwobel · 25/09/2020 07:21

@quarentini if you have travel insurance or booked on visa maybe you can get a refund?

BowlerHatPowerHat · 25/09/2020 07:35

My understanding is Edinburgh has a lot of Air B&B rentals in the Royal Mile area. It causes a lot of problems for the local residents. They may well take this opportunity to report any breaches as loads of random people coming and going in the communal stairwells is a real nuisance.

cdtaylornats · 25/09/2020 09:16

Everything is closing at 10:00 PM anyway.

Breathmiller · 25/09/2020 10:25

I'm afraid 2 households can't mix in holiday accommodation quarentini
We are in self catering this week and after a lot of confusion when the guidelines came out, half our party had to leave so we are only one household left here.
I hope your airB&B allow you to cancel. It seems like they might be hoping for the booking to go ahead so they don't lose out.
Remember it isn't just guidelines from today but enforced by law.

What a shame for you.

Callisto1 · 25/09/2020 11:31

Edinburgh air b&b have a very poor reputation. Most of the central ones are in tenement flats with shared stairwells and a menace to local residents.

When self catering was first opened the places that used common stairs were not permitted to reopen. But many did anyway causing lots of stress to residents and many complaints. Maybe air b&b would listen to a complaint, but I very much doubt the actual host will cancel.

Rhumba · 25/09/2020 14:11

You could stay in the same hotel if you were able to cancel the Air BNB booking, as long as you are not sharing rooms. Lift sharing is strongly discouraged (or some similar phrase) but not banned. You would need to have finished your meal by 10.00 pm.
You can share a table but should SD where possible from the other couple.

Invisimamma · 25/09/2020 14:56

You can't share a car or accommodation with another household under current rules.

There are exceptions but you don't appear to meet them.

You can go out for a meal with one other household, max 6 people (but really you should be socially distancing from them).

quarentini · 25/09/2020 18:10

After a few messages between the host and myself I was getting nowhere so I asked Air B&B for a refund as we were unwilling to break the law and I'm pleased to say that a full refund has been given

OP posts:
Breathmiller · 25/09/2020 19:05

I'm sorry that your trip has been cancelled but glad you got your refund.

We had a villa booked in June and they refused to refund us. And so did the insurance. Still smarts.

quarentini · 25/09/2020 19:20

@Breathmiller sorry you never got a refund. That's awful.
We are deflated that the trip has to be cancelled but hope to visit Edinburgh in the future
