Does anyone know what this means? Does a hotel or holiday cottage count as a private home (only one household can meet) or the same as a pub or restaurant (two households)?

It wasn't mentioned in the speech yesterday, although NS did ask people to not go abroad.

Seems that self catering accommodation doesn’t count as a private home

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 09:17

Buffet this might save my October plans . Thanks for sharing the link. So many sad Lidl fam faces last night Sad.

unknownscot · 23/09/2020 09:18

Personally I'd think that a self catering cottage is the same as a private home. I've cancelled two upcoming trips away to a self catering home.

SBTLove · 23/09/2020 09:19

Does this mean B&Bs can’t take guests? I’ve a one booked in Oban next month 😕

NameChange9824 · 23/09/2020 09:31

Brilliant! Thank you Buffet. That's very good news for me.

Would love clarification on this.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/09/2020 17:47

As I understand it the no mixing households rule only applies to private homes. Holiday accommodation is still subject to the previous two households rule so two families can go away together.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/09/2020 17:48

A Scottish accommodation provider (lodges) emailed me today to say it's two households, max of 6 adults.

Lazt · 23/09/2020 17:56

This seems like a handy loophole?? So if I want to see my parents then we can hire self catering accommodation to avoid either being stuck outside or busy cafes - they’re not in great health (previously shielded) so not keen on a 7 hour road trip for a brief cuppa in the garden!

Lazt · 23/09/2020 17:56

Round trip*

myworkingtitle · 23/09/2020 18:05

This is brilliant news! So we can visit MIL if we stay in a holiday cottage with her?

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 18:50

Jason Leitch has just said on thr news that self catering is only one household!
But that is different to what is said on Visit Scotland.
Anyone know?
We are in a self catering cottage now and confused

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 18:53

Me too and worried. Think link shared earlier made sense. Maybe because I desperately wanted it to. Wish I hadn't watched. Sad

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 18:58

But we have just checked Visit Scotland and it still says...

Indoors in public spaces (from tomorrow, Wednesday September 23 2020)

A maximum of six people from two households can meet in public indoor spaces such as cafes, pubs and restaurants. This includes all types of accommodation such as self catering.

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 19:00

Can you link to that please ? My DM is in tears I would love to reassure her .

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 19:05

Hopefully this works. I've never done a link

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 19:09

Breath thank you so much it works.

fuffit · 23/09/2020 19:10

.

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 19:14

I think it means we are okay.

I do hope so. We have had a rollercoaster of 'can we can't we' going on from the announcements yesterday.

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 19:21

So have we. My DM treated herself to her "holiday" pjs today as I had sent her the ASSC link earlier.

It makes sense as BnBs etc would all suffer. We don't want a country pile for 6 families just a cottage by the sea .

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Sturmundcalm · 23/09/2020 19:29

I think it's v odd cause BnB's are different to self-catering - they would be expected to risk assess their breakfast seating areas, etc whereas no matter how a business risk assesses their self-catering accommodation they can't stop you sitting beside someone from another household on a couch or at a table...

I was actually talking to my DH about this and how it didn't make sense when Jason Leitch said explicitly that self-catering was 1 household only so there are clearly mixed messages galore!

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 19:35

ASSC and Visit Scotland saying that 6 from 2 is okay. But Prof Leitch says no. We could observe distancing easily in the accommodation I have booked. So confusing .

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 20:11

Following yesterday’s announcement, we were advised that the rule of six, from no more than two households and not including children, is allowed within self-catering accommodation. However, we are awaiting the publication of the updated guidelines to clarify this point as we are aware there is some confusion. We will update our advice as soon as we get.

Visit Scotland has just been updated to this.

Breathmiller · 23/09/2020 20:17

@Lidlfix sorry to confuse things even more

Lidlfix · 23/09/2020 20:22

Thanks it's appreciated. I am looking into booking a nearby BnB so DPs can still go but even that won't solve it all Sad.
