I’m not saying I won’t do it, just thinking first seeing what happens with it. I can be quite anxious so don’t want to fuel that unnecessarily.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/09/2020 16:05

You have to leave your contact details if you are in a cafe/restaurant anyway, so that is a moot point...

WouldBeGood · 13/09/2020 16:19

Yes, but a different thing to being “in close contact” for the prescribed period.

WouldBeGood · 13/09/2020 16:20

I’m not being argumentative just musing

I was reading about it today. Developed by a branch of Amazon on a 10 year contract.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 14/09/2020 07:31

Do you have a link? And again, it's anonymous, so is that an issue?

WeAllHaveWings · 14/09/2020 13:40

Interested in a link too @cdtaylornats, and also why it would be a concern if the only data stored is temporary encrypted keys between phones. There is no user information in the app.

Developed by a branch of Amazon on a 10 year contract.

I think you've got your wires crossed somewhere. As far as I know the data is hosted by AWS, along with a zillion other places. As far as I know, the app developers, Nearform have no relationship with Amazon - you can read their blurb here:. www.nearform.com/our-story/

There is an evaluation of data privacy and the app here: www.ascentcyber.co.uk/post/scottish-government-launches-protect-scotland-contract-tracing-app

I have downloaded it too.

But agree with most of the points above. I'm working from home, not travelling on public transport ever, and rarely having 15 minutes contact with other people. A coffee with a friend once a week, maybe. The chances of it telling me that I have been in contact with a positive case who I don't know is ridiculously small.

Also agree that the bams having parties and mixing with loads of different people will not be downloading apps.

SockYarn · 15/09/2020 08:31

I also think there are some practical issues to think about. For example. I volunteer once a week in a charity shop. I am in the back shop, sorting out donations. Someone comes into the shop and spends 15 minutes browsing the books on the other side of the wall from where I'm working. We're less than a metre apart, the app doesn't know there's a wall between us. That person tests positive, I get a ping to say I'm a close contact. But of course I'm not.

Or someone living in a block of flats who tests positive and the app tells their neighbours to the side, above and below.

I do think it's important though that lots of us who aren't going out and about and seeing lots of people have the app. Same reasons as I fill in the survey about contacts every couple of weeks - to show the Scot Gov that we're not all reckless idiots spreading germs willy nilly. It'a about balance.

They clearly know from current mobile data that use of public transport is way down as is being in retail areas.

As had been said targeting the more obtuse/ less anxious (take your pick!) is the issue as I see it now.
