Hi,
Can you tell me a bit more about Troon please.
I briefly visited last year and liked the area.
Especially near the beach. It was very friendly and welcoming.

We are an Asian family and looking for somewhere multicultural.

And it seemed quite multicultural but am aware it could be just the time of year we went with all the other visitors.

Would very much appreciate some feedback.

Thank you

I don’t know Troon sorry, but with anywhere on the west coast I would strongly advise visiting in February before moving!

Troon is a nice town. Good bars and restaurants down the coast in Troon, Prestwick and Ayr. It can certainly get wild and windy in Winter but that's why it has substantial houses.

Prestwick airport is 10 minutes away, Glasgow airport 40 minutes. Trains run to Glasgow 3 times an hour.

Good schools - the local Private schools are small and well spoken of. The local council schools are also pretty good.

Shops are of the small independent variety and rumour has it they still have a bank.

Cinemas in Ayr and Kilmarnock. Theatre and concerts in Troon, Ayr and Kilmarnock.

Troon is lovely. Don't live there but am not far away and often go for beach walks. Facilities and transport links are good.

I definitely wouldn't consider it to be multicultural, however, local schools have very kids from BAME groups, so if that's a factor that's important to you then it may not be the right move. I work in another Ayrshire school and at the very most there are one or two non-white faces in each year group.

Where are you at the moment?

Troon would be my preferred choice if I were to move back to the area. I'm mixed race, I grew up in Irvine and attitudes in the 80's were pretty deplorable. I returned briefly as an adult with my two children and while things had moved on a bit, there's a very particular attitude which can be a little intimidating (flutes, drums)

Troon, Prestwick and Barassie are in the main more accepting and seem warmer and less discriminatory towards other cultures, certainly compared to Irvine, Saltcoats and Ardrossan.

Transport is fantastic, beaches, restaurants all top notch. If you haven't fallen out with Ryanair, Prestwick Airport is great to fly from - small, quiet and hassle free.

I live Troon, it always feels very peaceful there.

I loved living there and my husband still works there. I do think you need to be about 3rd generation of living in Troon to be allowed to say you are from Troon, that being said I felt very welcome as does my husband who is from abroad.

Good schools, nice restaurants and lots of new houses if you venture along the Barassie side. I'd move back in a shot if my children weren't so settled now

Thank you for the replies.

We are living in London. We want a change and have visited Scotland over the last couple years and absolute fell in love with Troon.

The children are 1 and 3 so thought it’s not disruptive just yet with schooling.

I know moving to somewhere like Edinburgh or Glasgow would have more of a multicultural environment but we wanted to be more near the coast.

Maybe we need to rethink things.

How about West Kilbride?

Troon is lovely. I can't say what it's like to live there though, sorry.

There's a direct Glasgow train that takes less than an hour.
