What areas of Perth are nice/not nice?

Just that really. Looking for at a possible house move to Perth, somewhere in a decent catchment area for primary and preferably secondary too. Budget for house is £200k max. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a standard family home somewhere family friendly without too much anti social behaviour (have had bad experiences of this from neighbours in the past). Any advice?

Neither high school in Perth is that great tbh. Does it have to be Perth city? You’d maybe be better off in a surrounding village or small town and then commuting if it’s for work.

Nice. Oakbank, Viewlands, Western Edge, Craigie, Kinnoull

Not nice (or it would be fairer to say I wouldn't live there)
lLetham, Tulloch, Muirton. North Muirton

The four secondaries are all pretty similar. I would say St John's had the edge on the others. New secondary at Bertha Park out west where there's lots of new builds but for a new school it has lots of behaviour problems

I would be looking out Forgandenny, Dunning, Auchterarder way if I was buying

If you have an idea of where you're looking please post

I've lived in Scone and Perth all life

I have family who live in Perth. Its quite an expensive place. Nicer areas are Craigie, Oakbank/Viewlands, Kinnoull but I’m not sure if you’d get a house for £200k in any of those areas. Of course it would depend on how big a house you would be looking for. There are also 4 secondary schools in Perth and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks all. Can I ask, what's wrong with Tulloch? Saw a nice house there in our budget range and have called for a viewing.

House needs to be either in Perth or one of the villages between Perth and Dundee, such as Inchture, Longforgan, St Madoe's. Scone would be fine too but Aucherarder too far. But, as far as I know the catchments for secondary would still be Perth, in the villages I've listed?

Carse villages feed to Perth High

St Madoes is nice

Tulloch (or parts known as Hillyland) is not somewhere I would live but that's just my preference. It's hard to say why, just experience growing up here

They've built lots of new houses over the last 10 years added on to the existing large council estate. It's not a particularly safe feeling and I wouldn't walk through it.

It does have a beautiful new school though

chrislilleyswig has it spot on, as someone from the area x

Longforgan is nice and quiet but there’s not much there apart from the village shop and the pub if that’s an issue for you. Your kids would need to get a bus to school. They would have been in the catchment for menzieshill high but they closed it so now i thing they go to perth high

That's ok about there not being much. We drive and would be commuting anyway, and spending most of our time in Perth and Dundee.
About Western Edge...is that the bit with the new builds beside the A9? I liked a few houses there (Trinafour) and also on Ritchie Place but both streets are right beside Letham and Tulloch. It's not that I look down on council estates or anything like that, but I had bad experiences growing up near one (drugs and anti social behaviour). This was in a different city though, so Perth might not be as bad?

I got what you said about anti social behaviour

The thing is Trinafour is on the edge of Letham but I would still live there. I walk around there regularly. Including in the evenings and although Newhouse Road is close, it feels like the safer end.

The only thing with Trinafour is that it's catchment for Letham Primary. I know lots of residents make placing requests for Oakbank and Viewlands though

Ritchie place feels closer to Tulloch and I wouldn't live there
