Do you have a budget? What about schools - do you have school aged DC?

cazzyg · 02/09/2020 22:54

It depends what your requirements and budget are really.

Falkirk has good transport links and houses are generally pretty reasonably priced. It selling quickly Un the more desirable areas at the moment. Lots of activities for children too and plenty of parks and open spaces especially with the kelpies/helix and Falkirk wheel now.

Try Polmont, to the east side of Falkirk and the surrounding villages Brightons and Wallacestone, nice new builds in Redding. Lovely communities, great commuter links and not close enough to the rougher areas of Falkirk to the west. Avoid Bainsford, Langlees, Victoria, Camelon, Carronshore, HallGlen, Tamfourhill.

It doesn't take long to get to Kirkliston from Falkirk if you drive.

Mrsjayy · 03/09/2020 13:21

Yeah Polmont is probably the nicest area isn't it ?

How about Winchburgh. Lots of new houses being built and huge development with new schools station and links to M9

We chose east of Falkirk rather than south queensferry/ Kirkliston /Linlithgow to settle 10 years ago (family in west Edinburgh). Reasons were

  1. Ease of commute - walk to fast train, not bus
  2. Cost
  3. Access to Glasgow/Stirling for future jobs, uni for kids
  4. Community - probably less people from Falkirk travelling into cities for activities/church/shopping/clubs, more staying locally
  5. Access to highlands a bit closer

There are some lovely areas around Falkirk, some definitely less so. Maddistion has a bad rep historically but lots of new housing, has doubled in size and an excellent school, so bargains to be had there. New detached housing is often a sign of middle-class desirability in an area.

Watch out for lack of winter sunshine, the hillside faces north.

Thank you all so much
