Anyone else caught a cold from kids going back to school?

OMG - my nose has been streaming all night and I'm tucked up in bed today with plenty of lemsip.

The only place I could have caught a cold is from DD - or one of my very socially distanced work colleague's kids - going back to school.

What is a concern is that I've managed to catch one despite all the extra hand washing and alcohol sanitiser precautions so TF it's a cold and not COVID!

Hopefully that's the new classmates shared their germs now!

I reckon it's in the post... I have my two off, youngest awaiting swab results because her cold came with a cough, and she can't smell or taste (which is very typical for her to be honest)
She spent most of yesterday snuffling up against me so yeah, I reckon the cold will be upon me in days.

sleepyhead · 24/08/2020 17:42

Most of Ds2's class have a cold (luckily no cough or temp- just scratchy throat and streaming nose) and ds1's sniffing. I'm sure it'll be my turn soon Hmm

SmileIke · 24/08/2020 23:45

my child is going for a test tomorrow I'm OK so far and so is my other child but we're all obviously isolating and probably just waiting to get it!

MrsJamieFraser22 · 25/08/2020 22:17

Dd2 has come home with a cold that DH now has. 8 of Dd1s class were off with a sickness bug yesterday - the (non Covid) bugs are definitely back here - it’s reminiscent of when the girls first started at nursery. Hope you’re feeling better soon OP - colds are bloody annoying

BeeTrees · 25/08/2020 22:20

Have you had a covid test?

waitforitwaitforit · 25/08/2020 22:30

I have a cold, and I'm a teacher. So much for increased infection control. No cough, temperature or loss of taste or smell so no covid test for me.

Michellebops · 25/08/2020 22:59

Yip p1 student had the sniffles herself for 24 hours, no other symptoms. Her dad and myself caught it and was much worse. Mostly headaches and runny nose. Luckily within 48 hours all cleared.

Stinkywizzleteets · 25/08/2020 23:04

I’ve been floored today with a cold. My dd had it Sunday & Monday. It can only have come from her as I decided to keep Shielding as much as possible and haven’t left the house in over a week. I’m So pissed off and miserable. Some Bugger sent their kid to school with it.

lookingforamindatwork · 26/08/2020 08:25

DD and I have runny noses, sore throats, cough and temperature. DD has had a test - no result yet. I have not had one yet - will see how I get on. DD feeling a bit better so hopefully just the cold.

Blastandbollocks · 26/08/2020 08:28

Currently brewing a bug. Definitely not Covid unless it's now coming with sinus gunk and ear infections...

No cough, no temp, and still have taste.

But, as I'm prepping for the kids coming back, I can't be ill. Pass the lemsip and let's crack on!

Groovee · 26/08/2020 14:58

Not yet but as I'm in early years I fully expect to get poorly soon x

Advicerequired123 · 26/08/2020 21:02

Has anyone had their results yet?

The test centre was very busy today. We’re waiting on results.

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 26/08/2020 21:10

My son started with it on Sunday, and I have come down with it today. We got tested yesterday and got negative results today. It is just a bit of a sore throat and generally runny nose / bunged up feeling.

Rassy · 27/08/2020 09:30

What concerns me about colds is do you only go and get tested if you have a temperature, loss of smell or a cough? I can have a 'proper' cold and have none of those symptoms!

Michellebops · 27/08/2020 09:43

@rassy I didn't get tested as when I went to book online it asks those questions and I had to say no to them so I couldn't get a test.

I was back to normal in 48 hours

Rassy · 27/08/2020 09:59

Thanks @Michellebops . I suffer from health anxiety (in relation to my family, not me!) and this morning DD2 was sniffing in the car. Normally I probably wouldn't have even noticed but of course my mind is spiralling into whether this is the start of a cold! Again that wouldn't normally bother me either but now it is all more 'complicated' - do you need to test, can you go to school/work if no specific Covid symptoms etc etc.

Michellebops · 27/08/2020 14:58

I hear you and probably recognise that in myself @Rassy

I sat all day last Tuesday expecting a call from the school to pick her up but it was fine and the whole class had them by the end of the week.

If none of the other symptoms then not Covid 🤞🏻

Rassy · 27/08/2020 15:02

@Michellebops I see that Nicola Sturgeon announced today that if you just have a runny nose don't get tested. She also reiterated that only get tested if got any of the three main symptoms. Last week 17,500 children (age 2-17) got tested and thankfully only 49 were positive

JamMakingWannaBe · 27/08/2020 15:16

Our school reiterated NS's message that only those with COVID symptoms need to be tested so I wonder if a "cold" bug is doing the rounds.

Apart from a very runny nose and headache I've not had a temperature or cough so have not been for a test.

Two colleagues have been tested this week as their kids had a cough. Thankfully all in both families are negative.

Yes we're starting to get colds here. Dd has already been off for two days with a sickness bug. I'd forgotten about all the other illnesses that always float about.

peoniesandfreesias · 30/08/2020 04:55

I've got a stinker of a cold and so have most of the pupils/staff. I feel like a 1st year teacher again catching everything that's going. So many kids have fevers/coughs that it's like a revolving door with them going home ill/appearing back again. We still have kids being medicated and sent to school ill which doesn't help anyone in the current climate, not that it every did. Despite everything, I am so relieved every day to just be in the building doing my job. The idea of potentially "working from home" again gives me the fear.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/08/2020 11:43

ds(16) has just woken with a cold (I hope!) this morning. Doesn't feel well, sniffy nose, sounds like a chesty (not continuous) cough. Have sent him to the shower for a good steam to clear it out, will dig out the thermometer for a temperature check later.

Need to see how the day progresses. Looks like he might be off school tomorrow, can't see them keen to have him in.

waitforitwaitforit · 30/08/2020 19:59

Honestly our (Glasgow) school has been full of kids with colds for the past week. If he's well enough in himself, he should go in. We're not batting an eyelid at a cold (although attendance has been patchy this week, so I suspect some parents are keeping their kids at home with a cold). The covid symptoms are well documented and all schools should be aware of them.

beenheresince2001 · 30/08/2020 20:01

Yup, we are all loaded, started with my youngest (11) now my 13 year old has a steaming nose and sneezing and a scratchy throat, typical

Rhumba · 31/08/2020 09:22

Information from our school is that the possible risk of covid-19 in any pupil is still viewed as any new persistent cough, (this means coughing a lot, (i.e. - coughing continuously for more than an hour or more, (if that’s not normal for that person) or 3 or more intense coughing episodes in 24 hours), a high temp (i.e.: 37.8 or over), and a significant loss or change in taste or smell. She stated that other symptoms such as a runny nose would not invoke the need for a covid test, and when specifically asked about this in relation to a Glasgow school giving advice on pupil to stay absent for runny noses - she stated that a runny nose (or other symptoms) is not a covid reason for staying off school - unless parents want to keep them off for other non covid reasons.’ Mine are all full of the cold too!
